Catherine's Story
Life
My Parents
My mother, Alma, passed away in 1985 from Lymphoma (cancer). On March 26, 2011 my father, Boris, passed away at the age of 93 from natural causes. I was my "daddy's girl".....I will miss him and his daily calls. Although losing him hurts the hurt doesn't even compare to the hurt of losing my son, Mark, back in 2005. (Many people don't know I lost my only sibling, Ed, the day before Mark (who was my only child) died. Ed had lung cancer (didn't smoke) & from the day they found the cancer till when he passed was less than 3 mos.)
My Spouse
He was one of the GTE telephone men that came into my place of employment to install a new phone system. On September 11, 1975 we married and I inherited a ready made family. He had full custody of two girls, aged 5 and 10. In 1996 right after his father passed away Perry retired from GTE. He then turned around and began working at the Florida State Fair Authority in the telephone dept (which comprised of other men he knew from GTE & that had retired from there before him). In May of 2014 he retired from the Fair Authority due to having cancer in his right kidney which Moffitt removed completely. Since then we see who can get under the other's skin the quickest!!
May 2013 I finally retired. No, I don't miss working and so far Perry & I haven't killed one another! It's nice to be able to come and go as we please (Callie's passing has allowed us to do this, finally!) ...Expand for more
Will we get another dog? Maybe. Maybe not. Right now it's a not but we'll see.
My Pets
We had a red merle female Australian Shepherd name January's Calendar Girl (Callie or Callie Girl for short). In Oct. 2006 we took on a (rescue) mixed Aussie-Border Collie, 7 yrs old, named Spunky. She came out of her shell alot. She didn't know how to play or what toys were or what a treat was nor was she sure about being handled. Sadly in November of 2009 we had to put Spunky down. She was such a good girl. In Sept. 2015 we opted to put Callie down. It was time for her (age 14-1/2 yrs). She's now pain free & happy. I like to think that as she neared that Rainbow Bridge she heard Mark call her, saw Spunky and went running to both of them.
My Son
My husband & I had only one child together, Mark. Mark graduated from Bloomingdale High in 1995 as a member of the Honor Court of the Honor Society, and went on to graduate from USF. Horrifically, we lost Mark in a traffic accident in May of 2005. Some drunk Hispanics (per the first witness on the scene) ended his life and fled the scene, and have not been caught to this day. Our grief of losing him has been tremendous. Knowing that we have to live out our lives without him has been hard. He is greatly missed. I couldn't have asked for a better child/son. My greatest gift to God was to give Mark back graciously - as hard as it was to do. I know where he is and I'll see him one day again.
