Catherine's Story
Life
After leaving Ottawa and moving to Kingston, Ontario in 1969 where I finished grade 12, I moved with my family to my birthplace, Victoria. I attended Camosun College and graduated with an Associate of Arts in Applied Communication in 1973. At the same time I joined in my Dad's footsteps, and joined the Navy - albeit only as a reservist. Following that I worked in the community TV field as well as some commercial TV and magazine work until 1982, when I joined the (then known as) Canada Immigration and Employment Commission, where I stayed for 14 years. During this time I completed an undergraduate degree with areas of study in Spanish, Economic Development and Latin American Studies. MA in Criminology. I left the goverment -where my work always focused on retraining and re-educating adults, to the British Columbia community college system and Ministry of Education, where I have been working since 1990. I am currently a non faculty member at a medium sized university and my role is the education of professionals in public safety - mostly police officers from Canada and abroad. I have worked overseas in the training of police officers in the Arab Gulf and have travelled extensively. My area of research is child exploitation (images of child abuse) on the Internet and I hope to present my research findings at conferences in 2008. I was briefly married, have been divorced for over 20 years and have never had children.
