Catherine's Story

Life I went straight from Neff to UC Irvine, got my BS and PhD in Neuroscience and Neuroethology. Then did a postdoc at UCLA and then moved to a faculty position in the College of Vet Med at Washington State University. I bought a small farm shortly after I moved to Pullman WA and finally got married to Lindsay Oaks in 1997. We had triplets in 2000, Gilbert, Sara, and Gillian. Lindsay and I divorced within a couple of months of the children's first birthday...a wife and three children were too much for him.....but life is still wonderful and we are on very good terms. I bought a slightly larger farm outside of town. My old friend Scott Foster (Neff 1975) found out I was single again and moved to Pullman in 2001.....I told him I couldn't promise anything, but everything happened and we are very happy together. Spring 2007...just finished lambing and kidding season and calves will be born next. First three are here in April 2007. Scotty is not impressed with beef cows that have just calved......think bear roaring and 1500 lbs of "don't touch my calf". We invest in the original "stock" market. It is interesting to see your money be born and literally grow. If you are up in Pullman way I can be found at the WSU website....and would love to chat. Update November 2019 The childrens' father died in January 2011 after a very short bout with neuroendocrine cancer that had extensively metastasized at the time of diagnosis, November 2010. ds progressed through school at a normal pace and both girls were valedictorian at Pullman High School. There were maybe a dozen valedictorians. All with 4.0 gpa. The girls were in 4-H from 3rd grade through their senior year. Gilbert from 3rd grade through 8th grade when he left for the Army and Navy Academy. The girls excelled in 4-H receiving numerous Grand Champion Awards and Teserve Grand Champion Awards in Market and Fitting and Showing with all the animal species they showed, but exceptional well with sheep. Their Junior year, they swept the sheep competition. Gillian had Grand Champion Market Class and Sara won Reserve Grand Champion. In Fitting & Showing, they reversed the order. Sara was Grand Champion, and Gillian was Reserve Grand Champion. That was a very exciting year. Gilbert has always been interested in the military, including wanting to go to West Point. He found a college prep military academy to go to. Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad CA. I think he also found it the beachfront placement fairly attractive. He was an outstanding student and athlete. Awarded Outstanding Junior and Senior Student. Varsity athlete in football, wrestling, field with shot put and discus, and LaCrosse. Captain of the football team. Also Outstanding Athlete Scholar in San Diego County Sophomore and Junior year. Commandant's Honor Roll or Honor Roll every quarter. Awarded the "Silver A". The highest award a cadet can receive. Seniors only eligible

Today (well, yesterday now) I am thankful for our family sense of humor when the teens do their own laundry. That sock fit that foot just an hour or so before that picture was taken. Just a wash and dry cycle apart.

Big stretch here. And about halfway up. At this point I realized that she is free-climbing. No harness. No helmet. No belay. I didn't take these pictures, and she was down and safe. She was so happy. I decided not to rain o
