Cathleen's Story
Where do I start, life has been good and crazy, mostly at the same time. I got married in 1971 and went to work at Security Pacific Natl Bank. In 1973 I began working at Ohio Casualty Insurance, claims division, and ended up being trained as a paralegal by their house counsel. I worked full time until my first daughter was born in 1975 and after that, I worked as the office manager for our family manufacturing business, worked as a contract paralegal part time, and taught natural childbirth classes for 2 local hospitals. I had 2 more kids in 1977 and 1979, was "room mom" for all of my kids, did costuming for the Fullerton Light Opera for a short time, was a Blazer Scout leader and ran a trap shooting club that hosted national and state shooting events. I was divorced in 1989 and moved to San Diego in 1990. There I married my best friend in 1991. In 1992, I went to the University of San Diego, school of law and got my first paralegal certificate in litigation (I figured I was already doing the work, I may as well have the certificate too). I went back to USD in 1996 and got a second certificate in intellectual property and in 1997 I got a third cer...Expand for more
tificate in contracts. In 1999, Steve and I had our first grandson, Noah and a few years later we became his legal guardians. That same year, my mother-in-law became quite ill, so Steve went to Fullerton to take care of his mother and I remained in San Diego. In 2003, I was offered a great position at a large national firm based in Fresno and decided to accept. Steve remained in Fullerton to care for his mother and I moved to Fresno; he kept the cat and I took the grandkid and we lived "bi-coastal" seeing each other on weekends and holidays until Steve passed away suddenly in 2009. Noah is a complete "geek" with mad computer skills, interested in becoming a programmer and has an serious video game addiction! Noah completed a Service Mission for the LDS Church in 2022 and moved to Kansas City, MO to study IT and programming in 2023. At 71, I am still working as a paralegal full time, partly for the income but mostly because I'd be bored to death without my job. I am still doing the costuming for our family Halloween Haunt business, Phobia Productions, now in it's 20th year! Never a dull moment or enough time and I wouldn't have it any other way.
