Cathy (Bliss)'s Story
After high school, I went to Plattsburgh State where I earned My B.S. in elementary Education. Then, I taught for two years in Minerva, NY. I married another teacher and moved to West Virginia in 1972 because of their need for certified kindergarten teachers. I earned a M.A. from Marshall University in WV and began taking classes towards a doctorate in education. I never did finish that degree (life got in the way) but have 58 hours beyond my M.A. With a total of 40 years in kindergarten, I retired from the classroom.
My husband died about 12 years ago. My only child, a daughter, lives in the Columbus, Ohio area with her husband (no ...Expand for more
grandkids).
Since retiring four years ago, I stay busy mentoring new teachers, working as the associate director of the West Virginia Professional Educators, and have traveled several times to Europe. I serve on three committees for the WV State Board of Education. Also, I involved in many church activities serving as DRE and teaching the RCIA classes..
Through the past few years, I've found that growing older isn't for wimps. I have had several health scares including a bout with cancer. But, I've also learned that if you give in to these problems you may as well lie down and die which I don't intend to do for a very long time.
