Cathy's Story
Life
Well, I met the love of my life in 1982, Shane Gray. We married in 1989 and then moved to Florida in 1992 and have been here ever since. I am a college student now, imagine that! I am slowly working towards a Ph.D. in Anthropology with special focus on archaeology. Because of school I was able to do an intership at Shamu Stadium, Sea World Orlando. I collected data on a neonate killer whale and his mother for nearly a year. From September 2000 to May 2004 I was the (volunteer) director of the archaeology lab for Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida under the direction of Dr. Marilyn Stewart. I work with all of the artifact collections doing cataloging, illustrations, reconstruction, and analysis on everything from ancient pottery remains to osteological remains. I have done Mesoamerican pottery reconstruction for Drs. Arlen and Diane Chase of the University of Central Florida, for one semester, as well. I also did work with Dr. Michael Smyth, also of Rollins College, doing Mesoamerican lithics analysis on the obsidian lithic artifacts he has found at his excavation site in the Yucatan over the past several years, the ancient Maya city called Chac. I had the great pleasure of working for 15 days in the Puuc Region of the Yucatan in June 2004. I finis...Expand for more
hed up work on the Chac site and also did survey work on an unexcavated site. I had the good fortune to climb a 40 meter ruined pyramid in the heart of this ancient ruin and from that vantage point could see nothing but jungle for miles and miles in all directions. It was the best experience of my life to finally go on my first archaeological trip where I had the opportunity to do work.
My husband, Shane, has done archaeological illustrations for Dr. Smyth and his illustration was published in Lifeways in the Northern Maya Lowlands: New Approaches to Archaeology in the Yucatan Peninsula (The University of Arizona Press, 2006). I'm very proud of him. My husband, Shane, is a Project Manager for a company in Orlando, FL called Entech Creative. Shane is a sculptor and artist. Life is good! Hope life is being good to all of you too!
Don't just sit around wondering about what you've done with your life so far. Go after the dream! Don't let anyone tell you different! It's not work if you love what you're doing!
Workplace
Okay, so after the collapse of the mortgage subprime market I had to go back to a line of work I haven't done in 20+ years. I am now a motor coach operator (Charter Buses). I had forgotten how much I enjoyed driving these massive vehicles.
