Cathy's Story
Well, let's see, my class was the first kdg class at WG. and my favorite class was art; I spent my lunch with Mr. Jenkins (third grade) in the art room; he showed me how to use color, paint, etc. and told mother to give me art lessons; I did piano instead and it was not good. Being an only child for six years on a farm so far from any other children, my grandmothers, Mosbaugh and Hosier, played an important role in my life, because I often stayed with them; after my sister was born, my mother worked, and we sure did a good job keeping the house tidy for her return, HA. Mr. Boze my 5th grade teacher was a great influence on me; he held me after class, before lunch and told me I was smart, who me??? He was not going to accept any incomplete papers, or me drawing and not working; and it all began. I graduated in the Honors College at BSU in English and Psychology and taught for 10 years while I completed my masters; I then entered the clinical psychology doctoral program and completed that degree (taught 3 years at BSU in psyc Dept. and worked at the counseling center )and now have a full time private practice. I think we were so lucky to have grown up when we did and attend WG. I would highly suggest...Expand for more
the book "Little Heathens" by Mildred Armstorong Kalish, it tells ours and our parent's growing up. I am sad to have had no children, but my sister Christine has shared hers and I have three great nephews, aged 3.4.5 and a great niece aged 8mo. Mother passed June of 2008 and I miss her greatly. She was loving, yet expected our best. Dennis, my husband is retired from teaching science/biology and takes care of the family farm and has honey bees, fruit trees and studies the Indians of the area and gathers artifacts. I was lucky to have Christine as my sister; we were the ying and the yang; I was messy and creative, she organized and exact. Today, I write poetry and short stores, (none published) and do water and oil painting. I still sew, as well. I am an international officer for my college sorority, Pi Beta Phi and Christine will be an honored alumna initiate, Jan, 23, as we install our latest chapter at U. of Cincinnati.
Well, I still think wading in the creek, having all my farm pets and 4-H projects and attending the smallest school in the county made me lucky, worth more than all the money in the world. Happy New Year to you all, Cathy Hosier Palmer, 1962 graduate of Walnut Grove High School
