Cathy's Story

Wow! It's been quite a ride from there to here. Are you ready for the details of this retired librarian's life? When I went to part time status at the Orion Township Public Library, I had some time on my hands which I filled with a tiny bit of character (not runway) modeling and I was the Detroit Free Press YAK. Yep, the 7 foot tall costumed character, that took me to schools to promote reading and mall meet and greet sessions, where I often had little ones hanging on one leg or the other, saying "I love you, Yak." Remembering that Yak's can't talk, it was quite the challenge to help lead the Christmas sing at the Henry Ford. Then in my spare time, I dealt blackjack at corporate parties. I retired in 2004 on disability. But I still have fun, especially when I'm with my Unitarian friends. Beacon church is located in Troy, MI. I've lived in Rochester for a long time and was active in the community for a goodly number of years (Zoning Board for 15 years.) My son, who owns a property management company in Rochester lives about 10 minutes away. Over the years we've had three Flat-coated Retrievers. Then we were blessed with Otis who was a hound in the front half and a lab in the back. Our most recent member of the family is a female Golden Retriever. a challenge. After honeymooning in Antguia, most of our travels have been to various Caribbean islands, along with a trip to Mexico and one to Alaska. I went on a cruise to Hawaii during which we had a jumper (yes, he was alive when they got to him.) We had two rough sailing days, which, luckily didn't affect me. It was a very long ride on the ship there and back with 5 days in the islands. One of my most meaningful trips was with the Road Scholar group to the Mt. Rushmore area. In the evening, I could see the President's faces from my balcony. We also learned a lot about Kevin Costner. He has a casino in a town nearby and the beginning of a resort area, which will never be finished, a bit farther away, where we saw reenactments, listened to lectures, and of course hit the gift shop. I have arthritis in most every joint and fibromyalgia that lays me low from time to time. Those Cranio-sacral treatments sure do help me cope. For our 40th, 45th and finally the 50th PCHS class reunions, I've been on the committee. My major contribution has been being the "find-em" person, searching for our lost classmates. Speed ahead a few years and now I'm working on our 55th reunion. It seems like yesterday that I was roaming the halls or PCHS or helping Mr. Treais (biology teacher) as a student assistant.
