Cecelia's Story

Man have I been busy since high school. I always wanted to be a nurse and pilot when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I graduated with a BSN & later MSN in Nursing(RN). I've worked for over 30 years as a flight nurse/ER nurse/ICU (neonatal, pediatric and adults) in many areas, but preferably cardiac surgery and cardiology. I also taught EMT-P's as well as 18 Delta (military combat medicine) which I absolutely adored. I still miss teaching. My all time favorite is both fixed wing and rotor medicine. I've let it expire, but was a certified EMT-P for 30 years as well. I am also a licensed pilot, and flew for a commercial airlines for a while as well as nursing. I've been happily married for longer than I'm able to count to a phenomenal man. He is now a COL in the Army. He's been deployed more than he has been home since September 2001. He got injured this last deployment and has been in the Warrior Transition Batallion since August 2007. Hopefully, within th...Expand for more
e next 10 months, he will be medically retired. We have 2 daughters, age 32 and 29. We have 1 granddaughter (age 2) and the other was born December 22, 2009. My kids are the light of my life. They are both happily married to the men of their dreams. Both of my folks are still living and healthy. My brother is in the Army as well and is stationed in California currently. He has been deployed for 2 years in Iraq and Kuwait. My sister lives in Denton and is a trainer for the athletic department, as well as a teacher. Life is wonderful. I did have to quit my job as a nurse in 2008 in order to take care of my injured husband. Thanks be to God he is doing somewhat better, but has a long way to go before he is healed. However, 6 deployments have taught us that life is precious and God is good and we are so blessed to have each other. We live in San Antonio and plan on retiring in Wimberley where we also have property. Hopefully we will eventually be able to build our home out there before we are too old to drive out there.
