Celia's Story
My family moved to Ventura during the summer of 1961. We lived at the beach that first year, so I attended Will Rogers Elementary School (6). After we moved to the east end of Ventura during the summer of 1962, I attended Balboa Junior High School (7-8-9) and Buena High School (10-11-12). After graduation, I went to (then) Ventura Junior College off and on until 1972. 30+ years later -- in the late 1990s -- I picked up a few additional credits at Everett Community College (Washington State) before transferring to the University of Washington. I FINALLY received my diploma from the University of Washington in December 2000, then continued on to earn my K-8 Teacher Certification in 2004, also at UW.
For most of my working life, I've worked in administrative support positions, but in a variety of fields -- from aerospace to accounting, newspaper editing to tax preparation, loan processing to substitute teaching. I took an early retirement in December ...Expand for more
2012, then moved back to Ventura County and remarried in January 2013. Now that I'm retired and have a lot of time on my hands, I hope to devote 2-3 days a week to working as a classroom volunteer.
I have two sons from my first marriage and five beautiful grandchildren -- all living in Orange County. I get to spend time with all of them a lot more often now that I'm back in Southern California, and consider myself blessed to be able to watch my grandchildren grow up and flourish.
My husband is a 1967 graduate of Rio Mesa HIgh School. We had worked together at Point Mugu in the early 1970s and then reconnected in December 2011. After marrying in January 2013, Joe and I settled into our home in the foothills above Santa Paula. I got to counting all the moves I've made in my life and figured out that this latest move is #29, so I'm hoping I've finally settled down and that this will be my last move -- at least, until that final move to "the home." :-)
