Cesar's Story

Note from Cesar: My teen years: Only by the grace of God did I survive. Darwin comes to mind. My twenties: Married at 22yo and divorced 5 years later. Worked at Cherry Rivet for exactly 7 years. While there my taste for traveling began to drive me. There were also many veterans there to tell their assorted sea stories. After traveling to Puerto Rico I knew I could not go travel for just two weeks out of the year. So I talked myself into going on the Orange Coast College Semester in Paris program. After signing up I also signed up to join the Navy. So I left my job in September 1984 went to Paris France and returned just before New Years day then went to stay in Cuernavaca Mexico for 3 months and returned in time to go to boot camp. My Navy career: I joined for the main purpose of traveling on the government dime as much as possible. So after boot camp I spent a year in Memphis studying aviation electronics then on to Pensacola, FL to train as aircrew. Then on to Mountain View, CA to learn about the P3 Orion. After 8 years there I was transferred to Jacksonville, FL. 3 1/2 years later off to Lexington Park MD. From there to Rota Spain but first training for the VQ community in Oak Harbor WA. After Spain I was blessed to be sent to the greatest job ever!! That job was in Sicily and my job was as radio/communication operator flying on a Gulfstream III. The Catbird. After that assignment I was able to get to San Diego, North Island Air Station where I finished up flying in the C-12's. Family: Met my future wife to be Angeles in Mountain View, CA and she has traveled extensively with me around the US and Europe. She drove with me cross country from California to Jacksonville, FL twice. Norfolk to Oak Harbor which took us 30 days! Also Norfolk again to San Diego which took almost 3 weeks. Our son was born when I was 42 and then a month later I was sent off on 6 month deployment to Panama. We 3 currently live together in Coronado. I retired at 62 and have a part time job and chauffeur my wife around to various mineral hot sp...Expand for more
rings. Travels while in the Navy: Out of Mountain View I deployed to Misawa Japan for 5 months, Cubi Point Philippines for 3 months, Diego Garcia (Dodge) for 3 months. From those places I spent some weeks in Guam, a few days in the Seychelles and old British base in Oman. From Jacksonville I deployed to Iceland, Puerto Rico and Panama. From those places I spent time in Sicily, Lajes and Honduras. While in Maryland I was sent for two weeks to Oahu to work on experimental equipment, also to Kinloss Scotland and to a remote island off the coast of west Africa. While in Spain: Mostly to Crete and Bahrain. My last deployment while attached to VQ2 was to Curacao for six weeks. Actually had a blast at all those places. While in Sicily: Attached to a reserve squadron with a detachment in Sicily and flew a VIP wherever he needed to be in Europe, Africa or the US. Wow what a time!! While in San Diego: Not many places. Just transport VIPs around on trips that always wound up back in San Diego. After the Navy: The days seem a blur since they go by so fast. Of much significance is being baptized this past February after being a catholic most of my adult life. I have immersed myself in Christianity for the past couple of years that I finally realized that I have been led by the Holy Spirit for all my life. I just did not realize it. Looking back on my life there were so many incidents that could have gone wrong but was blessed by the grace of God that I am here to write this life story of mine. One personnel thing about me is this: I saw something on tv about raising children as free range, by letting them outside and let them find out how things work out. After that I thought about my life, which was not free range but feral. Social skills were not known to me. The hair: I kept my hair in Navy regs up after retiring until covid. I was able to endure the urge to get a haircut because all the barbershops were closed and I did not want my wife to butcher it up so now she says that if I cut it that it is grounds for divorce!! Take care
