Although I left Springfield High in the middle of my Junior year, it will always be my alma mater. I moved to California in October of my Senior year after a few brief months in Louisville, Ky. Despite or because of my peripatetic childhood, I lived in Salinas, California for 32 years before moving to the foothills of the Sierras in 2006. After my husband and daughter suffered major illnesses in 1983 and 1986 respectively, I returned to college to pursue a teaching credential. With one semester of junior college under my belt, I needed just 100 more units to complete my degree. I graduated in 1989 from San Jose State and the University of Bradford in West Yorkshire with a degree in history and then went on to obtain my single subject teaching credential.
