Life I had my draft notice prior to graduation, and joined the Army for 3 yrs. So, my summer after graduation was short. I left for Ft. Bragg, NC on 29 Aug 66, where I spent 8 weeks completing Basic Training. I then transferred to Ft Sill, OK for Field Artillery school. After completing the course I was given a two week leave, before I departed for Vietnam in February 67. Once I arrived in Vietnam I was stationed at Lai Khe for 18 months. I did not want to spend Christmas of 67 in Vietnam, so I extended my tour for 6 months to stay in Vietnam. In doing this, I was granted a home leave that allowed me to spend Christmas of 67 in the US. I returned to Vietnam Jan 68 and I finished my tour Sept 68. I returned to the US for 30 days leave and was assigned to Germany (Babenhausen 68-69) for about 9 months before I got out of the Army Aug 69. I returned to Essex and worked as a sheet metal construction worker. I got married to the girl next door (Mary M. Smith) on 7 Nov 69. I tried working construction, but got tired of being laid off after every job, so I joined the Army again in Sept 71. I spent the following years in the Army being assigned to different countries. Such as Germany (Ansbach 71-74, Kaiserslautem 81-84, Bad Kreuznach 88-90) and Korea (Yongsan 78-79). I was also stationed in the US at Ft Hood, TX 75-78, 79-81, 84-88 and Ft Ord, CA 90-92.
