Charles's Story
Life
I was one of the crew who had to take the "Toonerville Trolley" from Midand Park to PLHS. Actually, the station I tried to miss the train from was Wortendyke. Retired from "reality" in 1986 'n now watch Pt. Pleasant waves and wave at Pt. Pleasant pleasantries!!!! Life is a "broadwalk!!! Have a golden retriever pup by the name of Humphrey whose appetite ranges from rocks to ivys to you name it!!! Like all goldens. Chuck (Charlie) Bogert see ya in the I.H. or Westside Cafe!!!
School
Entered Kindergarten in September of 1940. WWII happened. WWII ended. Moved to the Wortendyke section of Midland Park. School moguls decided I should be advanced 1/2 grade 'stead of goin' back 1/2 grade. I was now 1 full yr younger than anyone in my class. Whoooopee!!! Graduated from MP Junior HS in 1949. Was a sending district student to Pompton Lakes HS 'til 1951 when similar school moguls figured I should go to college when I completed my Junior yr. of HS in June of that '51 year. High school could have been a helluva lot more fun for me than it turned out to be!!!
College
Since I guessed the answers to the College Board Exams correctly for the most part, the idiots making decisions for high-schoolers in the 50's said I was ready for college & gave me a scholarship!!!!It was way before I was ready; I entered my freshman year at Lafayette 2 months after my 16th birthday and was thrust into a group of Vets returning from Korea - they didn't give a **** about anything except to "get that paper". I adopted that attitude for pretty much the rest of my life to t...Expand for more
his day. Not unlike today's young persons, I'm a selfish son-of-a-*****!!!!! There is one thing however, you can trust me; a better friend one could not ask for. (so I ended the last sentence with a preposition - who cares????)
Workplace
Honorably discharged from US Army Infantry 12Oct57, after 2 yrs. service; Worked as a 44 hr./wk."part-timer on Garden St. Pkwy while working toward Masters at Rutgers Univ. (all campuses).
Was hired by Mayor Frederick A. Demarest as Borough Clerk of Glen Rock, NJ in April, 1960. Got job when Mayor asked me why it was with a name like "Bogert" I was Catholic. My answer was that "me mither was a Hogan and me grandmither was a Murphy".
When the Ramsey Boro Clerk retired in 1964, I was hired by that Mayor and Council to replace him. There 7 years, the idiot Boro of Ho-Ho-Kus Hired me in 1970 as its Boro/clerk/Administrator.
After struggling with the morons that run that Borough, I became Employee Benefits Manager for UMDNj
until June 1, 1986 when I retired from "real life". Right now I volunteer for a local hospital in its PT rehab unit, work 2 shifts of 5.5 hrs each per week keepin' the peace in a "hot-pillow" motel in Pt. Pleasant, work out 4-5 times/wk. and party twice a week!!!
That about does this po chile in each week!!!
Bye now.
Military
I could always shoot well, so I honed that particular skill. Learned to shoot pool really well in the various dayrooms I was in. Drank too much and raised hell too much, but we only go 'round one time!!!!
Learned to love the people I left behind. They taught me mucho!!!!
