Charles's Story

I joined the US Navy right after High School & after Boot Camp I was trained as an Electronics Technician specializing in Radar Systems. I then attended Enlisted Submarine School. After Subscol I served on the USS Redfish until 1965 when I attended Navigation Electronics School. I then served on two balllistic missile subs, the USS Lafayete & the the USS John Marshall. While on the Marshall I attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer & was also selected for promption to the rank of Warrant Officer (W1). As a Warrant Officer I served on the USS Fulton as the Electrical Repair Officer. I then served as a Project Officer at the New London Test & Evaluation Detatchment as a Chief Warrant Officer (W2). There I was responsible for many new Sonar & Communication Projects for Subs. I was then transferred to the Naval Submarine Training School Pacific in Pearl Harbor Hawaii as the Electronics Warfare Training Officer. My Next duty assignment was in Guam Mariana Islands as the Executive(Docking Officer) of the floating drydock assigned to the shipyard in Apra Harbor. While assigned to the drydock I was promoted to Cheif Warrant Officer (W3). In 1980 I was transferred to the USS Proteus, also in Guam, & served 1st as the Command Legal Officer and then as the Electronics Repair Officer. erved as the Gunnery Division Officer, then as the Port Setvices Officer & was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer (W4). In 1985 I returned to the United States and served as the Electronics Warfare Officer at Naval Submarine School at the Submarine Base in New London CT. In 1990 I was transferred to the Strategic Systems Project Office Detachment at Unisys Corp on Long Istland NY. I was responsible for testing and upgrading all Navigation Systems on Trident Ballistic Missile Subs. This was my last tour & I retired from the Navy in 1992. While in the Navy I travelled extensively around the world & in every ocean. It was a career that I regretted having to end. During my Naval career I earned a Bachelor of Science Degee in Electrical Engineering. Along the way I also joined the Freemasons & am currently very active in their programs. Also along the way I earned Pilot Certificates as a Private pilot, Commercial Pilot, Airline Transport Pilot and Flighy Instructor. I am also rated as a Executive jet pilot. After retirement I pursued a career as a Corporate Pilot with the Electric Boat Corporation. In 2006 I fully retired in order to take care of my wife who contracted cancer. Thanks be to God that she has made a full recovery & we are closer than ever. I have 2 children by my 1st wife & Louise also has 2. Between us we now have 9 Grandchildren & one Great Granddaughter.
