Charles's Story
Wow, is it really nearly 40 years since high school?!? Time does fly.
I've pretty much let my life evolve. I've been a ranger/naturalist, educator, museum curator, architect, and now pull them all together as an exhibit designer in Seattle. I have a small firm of 6 or 7 people and one of our main clients is the National Park Service. We (google "EDX Seattle") design exhibits for NPS visitor centers all over the country. If you're in the area check out our exhibits at Arches NP UT, Great Sand Dunes NP CO, Klondike Gold Rush NHP Seattle, William Johnson House, Natchez MI, and a number of others.
I've been married for 32 years. My wife is a Family Medicine doctor and professor of medicine at the University of Washington. I spent about 10 years as a part-time architect/stay-at-home dad for our two sons, now 19 and 22. Wouldn't give that time up for anything though it d...Expand for more
id kind of mess with my professional trajectory as an architect, lol.
I get back to Colorado most every summer to spend time at a very remote, very primitive cabin that my family built (see "then" photo) about 1966.
A big change for me . . . you may recall that I wasn't the most athletic kid back then. I was relatively active but certainly not a jock. About 15 years ago I discovered that I'd always had undiagnosed asthma. Since I didn't "wheeze" nobody ever figured it out until my older son was diagnosed with asthma. Now, with daily meds on board I have increased my lung capacity by 25%!! Wow, it's a whole different world. I've done long distance biking, marathons, triathlons with my sons, and am the fittest I've ever been in my life. It's a whole different thing exercising with full lung capacity! And, since I wasn't a jock when I was young I still have good knees!
