Charles's Story

Current use of time: I find myself some 30 years later quite busy, involved in many things in my local community. From firefighting as a profession, to coaching youth soccer teams, and volunteering my time in many other ativities, I have certainly become quite fond of this little NW corner of the US. I often reflect on the many friendships I made during my school years and regret not keeping up on many of them. Some of my friendships with you, my classmates, while seemingly lost, still have an impact on me today. I wonder how they slipped away so easily. . Soon after completing H.S. I began to travel. Some of the traveling was related to work opportunities, some was related to my education, however, I certain to not allow my education to get in way of my "schooling", what life really had to teach me. If I wasn't involved in studying I was traveling again or in the great outdoors, developing my love for adventure. To my good fortune, I am still reaping the benefits of those younger days. I'm able to continue my involvement in Whitewater rafting (guide), skiing, climbing, and anything that else that gets me outside, weather or no weather. Colorado was kind to me in that way, encouraging us to go outside and play. The gray days of the NW (Oct, Nov Dec and parts of Jan) are the hardest. If for some reason you find yourself reading this little ditty, send me a note, or a friend request via Facebook. Charlie Drury Ferndale WA. I would love to reconnect. It is a time in my life and the friendships I had then that I would enjoy reconnecting with. Cheers, Charlie From the questions I answered below: How do I blow off steam. Forgive the cliche - I find myself most at peace in the great outdoors. Whe...Expand for more
ther it would be Mountaineering, hiking or some other aspect of the outdoors. Wildest thing? I didn't seem to be too wild. Always bashful with the girls so not much in that dept. I remember a few outdoor adventures and occassional dates I took to Downtown Denver to see the lights and explore. One such date found us riding a four wheeler in the snow mountains above Central City. Arriving back home around 4am we were both laughing at such a goofy, yet fun thing to do. If I was going to work somewhere.... I believe I have the best job anyone could have. I work in a small community where you get to know many folks. On any given day I could be found driving an ambulance, fire engine and even our Ladder truck. Fires are always challenging and exciting, yet we never wish them upon any one as they can be so very devastating. I work in a great profession that requires integrity and strength, something I hope I live upto. Do I have a Hero? Abe Lincoln, my father. Yes, I think those two would be fitting. Where have I lived? Hmmm, many places. From east coast of Florida -Colorado - Wyoming tetons and flats - Alaska and SE Alaska - High mtns of Canada - Western Washington - Japan...and other places. Been to all 50 states and numerous countries. The one person from my past I would like to most to see again? Many of you whom I knew. And several of our teachers too. Obsessions? I hate TV! If I wasn't working or something happen to my family I would probably go off the deep end and lose myself in travel and studip stuff. I love my family, my kids are my most valuable "possession" while I don't really possess them. They are growing older and, while I am enjoying this stage, I certainly miss their youth. This part of aging has been tough for me.
