Charles's Story
So,when you reach the downside of 60, it seems self-evident that life is composed of highs and lows, peaks and pinnacles, stops and starts, setbacks and victories. After graduating from MHS in '64, I went to OSU in Columbus and managed to party my way out of school. My GPA resembled an atomic nucleus, but my liver was probably supersized.
But maturity reared its ugly head, and I eventually completed my B.A. (Wooster, English), my M.A.(BGSU, Mass Communication) and studied for the PhD (BGSU, Mass Communication). Over the years I have worked as a highway engineering technician, retail salesman, professional cow milker, corporate communication trainer, bowling alley manager, all-night dj, sports broadcaster, news director, farm broadcaster, tv news anchor, radio station manager, tv station manager, butcher, colleg...Expand for more
e teacher, and state legislator (Ohio). In addition, I worked part-time as a writer, public relations advisor, political advisor, advertising creator and woodworker.
Sometimes I did well financially, and others...not so hot. I've been broke, and I've been well-off. I received a number of bad breaks, but also collected a great number of undeserved blessings. In 1978 I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Because of that discovery, I am probably in much better condition than I would have been without having to encounter the disease. My life and my lifestyle underwent radical reorientation.
For more than 40 years I've been married to the former Pat Barth of Upper Sandusky, and we are blessed with two great adult children, their spouses and three grandkids. Life is good. Pain is bearable. Disappoinment is momentary.
