Charles's Story
How is it possible to tell of your life in the past 50 years.However, here goes.1960...Graduated from BGHS {barely}. 1961...Joined the army and took baic training at Ft. Ord, CA and advanced training at Ft. Knox, Ky.1961-65...Assigned to Munich, Germany and my military occupation was as a Morse code intercepter with the 66th military intelligence unit.Continued in sports and played on the posts football, basketball, and baseball teams.I was still a jock.Selecteted to play on the European/American basketball team ,traveled and toured Europe for two years during the normal season.Of course I still had my job to do for the military.Promoted to sergeant in 1963 and married a beautiful German girl.First dau was born in 1964.1965-66...Returned to the states and was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wa. Ordered to Vietnam and spent the most harrowing period of my life.Much like our soldiers in Iraq. God bless them all.The significance was I survived. Many of my friends didnt.Promoted to Staff Sergeant. 1967-72...Ordered back to Germany. Coached at the youth and military level.Won many championships.Received the Man of the Community award for my work within the community.Second daughter was born in 1970.Graduated from The advanced level of leadership.Visited a few days with my old friend Jerry Walker.1971-72...Ordered b...Expand for more
ack to the states and spent a year at Ft. Carson,Co.before being ordered to Korea for a year.1973-78...Ordered back to Ft. Lewis, Wa.Graduated from the senior leadership course at Ft. Sill,Ok.Promoted to Sergeant First Class.1978-82...Ordered to Hawaii.Broke my heart.Promoted to First Sergeant. Selected to attend the US Army Sergeants Major Academy at Ft. Bliss, Tx. Located in El Paso,TX.Graduated and was promoted to Command Sergeant Major. Remained at the academy as a senior instructor.1983-86 Ordered to Ft. Gordon,Ga and later to Ft. Huachuca, Az.Pending orders back to Germany I said enoug is enough. I retired from the Army March 1988 after 27 years of duty.1988-90...Completed my bachelors degree in Educatin.Officiated high school football,basketball,and baseball. Umpired at the college level.1991-2009. Completed my Masters in Education.Taught school at the Jr. High and High School. Coached football and basketball at the same levels. Became divorced in 1995 and remarried the same woman in 2007 Retired from teaching in June 2009, after 18 years. Significant Achiements...... 17 awards and decorations to include the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit.Teacher of The Year.Both daughters are collge graduates and teaching in El Paso. Plans for the future....Rest and recuperation,travel and go to class reunions
