Charles's Story
Texas archeologist for 10+ years (shipwrecks, caves, mounds, missions, forts, mummies, skeletons, Aztec gold and Spanish silver, and so much, much more), on ocassion antiques & collectibles dealer, documentary filmmaker/video producer 15 years (recall that quirky Austin cult classic URBAN BATS---FRIEND OR FOE? ), UT Tower Tour Coordinator 6+ years, 2001-2007 (where business constantly soared to 50% before plummeting 50%), Texas Union Underground manager, Spring, 2007-present. Some strange journey but loving every bit of it! Still married to Jan, my high school sweetheart!
My interests include archeology, Texas history & prehistory, documentaries, learning something new each day to affirm I'm still alive, saving old houses and abandoned trucks from neglect and loss, hosting house concerts (Heart Pine House Concerts) for good friends and talented musicians, sowing expanses of native Texas wildflowers, caring for strays of all sorts, preserving early Texana documents, ephemera and photographic images, stimulating environmental awareness, human rights, equality and dignity for all in everything we do, writing letters in cursive longhand, holding hope while seeking grace, and, best of all: collecting lasting, dear friendships with others throughout my life.
My musical likes are a bit eclectic, including
Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Richie Havens, Janis Joplin, Van Morrison, Townes Van Zandt, Slaid Cleaves, Muddy Waters, Paul Simon, Woody Guthrie, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Eliza Gilkyson, Norah Jones, Jewel, Dave Matthews Band, Jimmy Cliff, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Michael Murphy, Bruce Springsten, James Taylor, Sting, Mick Jagger & the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Grateful Dead, Nanci Griffith, Tracy Chapman, Eric Clapton, Elvis, the Who, Led Zepplin, Country Joe & the Fish, Meatloaf, John "Cougar" Mellencamp, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Iron Butterfly, Tex Ritter, the Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Carole King, Roy Rogers, Enya, Bob Marley, Elton John, Blood Sweat & Tears, Chicago, the Texian Boys, Peter, Paul & Mary, Enrico Caruso, Ralph Vinson, Tom Anderson, the Whitmore family (particulary Eleanor and Bonnie), Kelley Willis, Jed & Kelley, oh and did I mention Bob Dylan :-)

n of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood; and I---
I took the road less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you did not do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

*Girl Of The North Country*
If you're traveling in the north country fair where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
remember me to one who lives there. She once was the true love of mine.
If you go when the snowflakes storm, when the rivers freeze and summer ends,
please see if she's a coat so warm to keep her from the howling winds.
Please see if her hair hangs long, if it rolls and flows all down her breast.
Please see from me if her hair hangs long, that's the way I remember her best.
I'm a-wondering if she remembers me at all, many times I've often prayed
in the darkness of my night, in the brightness of my day.
So if you're traveling in the north country fair
where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there, she once was a true love of mine.
---Bob Dylan
