Charles's Story
Lived in Worthington, Mn since I was about 5. Left town at 14 as family moved. Then returned to Worthington at 16. Stayed til I was 17 and joined the US Air Force. Made a career of 23 years in the Air Force. Boy from the cornfields of Minnesota saw the world .My big highlite of my career was 2 tours (8 yrs total) in England. I won a base lottery to see the British Queen trooping the soldiers on her birthday. She rode sidesaddle and was about 20 feet from me as she rode by. To include a tour in Vietnam. This was an eye opener and made one thankful for what you are or have. Believe me..those people were living on the ground floor trying to survive. Many Many did not survive. Lots of good soldiers and airmen were also lost in this political of a no win situation.Political wrangling lost our war. If the congress and political ones would have left the tactics to the military..we could have cleaned up a bad situation if we could have gone with full guns. I finished with 23 years and it was an excellent experience for this cornfield boy. Thanks to Jim Joens of Wilmont Mn who talked me into entering the USAF before I would get into more trouble.Thank you...Expand for more
Jim..Believe all kids after graduation go for a 2-3 year stint in the military would definetely straighten their minds up and a goal in sight.. I worked in WalMart for 13 years as a store maintenance while living in San Antonio Texas. I had 30 years in Texas and decided to move back to Minnesota. My wife Georgia is from Fulda Mn. We came to Fulda June 2006.Presently retired but taken on a couple of challenges..1. Fulda City Council. 2. Prairie Hill Cemetery Board. 3. Researching Civil War Soldiers interned here.4. Working with the Fulda Historical Society. These keep me busy. Spare time ride motorcycle with wife and dear lifelong friend/classmate Randy Griffith from Worthington. We have breakfast and coffee at Perkins Worthington 3 times a week. Met alot of nice people there. Service and management is outstanding.. For now at 73 1/2 years young. Im thankful for when my feet hit the floor each morning that another day is there My feelings of this day is...Do what you can while you can and enjoy yourself through the thick and thin. You dont know what tomorrow will bring. So thats a quick synopsis of my story and Im going to stick to it. HAHA
