Charles's Story

2009 marked the sixth summer that I worked on a miniature railroad. For the past three seasons I was an engineer, conductor, station master on Ed Dickens' Rio Golden Railroad at Heritage Square in Golden, CO. Ed is an engineer for the Union Pacific and a member of the UP steam team. I got a short ride on the 844 (last steam locomotive bought by the UP) for that. Prior to that it was one season at Lakeside Amsusement Park. I also ran the train at Pueblo City Park for two seasons. Many of you rode that train when you were little and may still do with your younger loved ones. In 2007 I was on the crew (car attendant) ...Expand for more
for the ``Return to Steam of the 346,'' an 1881 narrow gauge steam engine, the oldest operating locomotive in Colorado. My car was the 284, which was on the last narrow gauge train to leave Santa Fe, NM, on Sept. 1, 1941. I have also volunteered on the Platte Valley Trolley in Denver and the Pueblo Railway Museum. Do I have a life other than trains? Sure, but that is another story. Charlie M. 1970 PS. I do have a real job. PPS. You may notice that the pictures posted are not of me.(Really?) This is so, if I go to the reunion (I won't know until about 10 days before the event) I can be in cognito in plain sight.
