Charles's Story
Attended USAFA, 1968-70, then on to U. Colorado, Boulder, followed by two tours of Peace Corps in Philippines and Nepal 77-81. Completed a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (Epidemiology) from U. Hawaii School of Medicine (1991). Prior M.P.H. 1984. Later a M.S, in National Security Resource Strategy at the National Defense University (2013). -term, and more on shorter-term TDYs. Served over 5 years in Afghanistan as a Senior Civilian Representative reporting to the Ambassador and embedded with ISAF/NATO forces. Most recently returned from Liberia, where as Infectious Disease Team Lead our projects that discovered the host origin of the ebolavirus (isolated from a bat in a cave). Met spouse, Midori, while teaching English and tennis in Japan in 1983. We have a son, Charles III, completing his studies at George Mason U., nearby our residence in Fairfax.
