Charles's Story
Life
One of the most important events in my life was raising my two children as a single parent. What an honor and a privledge! Both have also graduated from College Western for Tobias (Toby) & Iowa for Sarah.
Marriage was not my forte. Believe it or not I married 5 times. I am agast as well, certainly was not in the plan. But, Klara (#5)should have been number 2 and there would not have been others. Klara is from Russia and the best. WE met through the internet and meeting her was an adventure of a life time.
I own and operate a Catastrophic Injury Medical Case Management Company with 15 employees and work with survivors of brain and spinal cord injuries.
After Wayne State I recieved my Master's in Social Work from the University of Iowa.
Life has been a very nice adventure. If you get the urge call me toll free at the office 800-401-2724
Workplace
My work career has been long and varied. After high school I went into the Army Security Agency for three years. Then started college at Tulane U in New Orleans but returned to Detroit to finish college at Wayne State with majors in English Literature and Journalism. While in college I worked as a desk clerk in hotels and then as a bartender both in Detroit and Mackinaw Island. I got a job at Blue Cross/Blue Shield as Administrative Asst to the Executive Vice President of Public and Staff Affairs (wow)Albert Kaufman and also worked for the President of Blue Shield. I left Blue Shield and worked as the crime reporter for the Macomb Daily and hated it. I left there and went to Memphis Mich Schools and taught 5th grade which was a trip but I left to go to law school which lasted a year. I then went to work as a claims adjuster for Great America...Expand for more
n Insurance Company for a couple of years. I viewed my self as an industrial social worker and liked working with injured people from car accidents and work related accidnets and would return to that arena as a case manager later. I then started my own insurance agency in Howell Michigan but I hated selling Life Insurance and was an abject failure at that kind of sales. I was hired by Insurance Planning Consultants Inc IPCI in 1972 and worked as a risk manager for 11 years both in Michigan for about 6 years and Iowa for 5. While working in Iowa I also went to graduate school at Iowa and got a Master's in Social Work. I really discovered myself as a social worker. I worked for the State of Iowa in Child Protective Treatment serivces but I wasn't cut out to be a bureaucrat and left after 18 months. I also had a small private practice that was interesting. After leaving the State of Iowa, I returned to Michigan in 1984 and went through five jobs in two years before going into business for myself where I should have been all along. I started off in January of 1986 with four nursing homes clients as a social work consultant but the money wasnt there and I started other ventures in consulting and rehabilitation social work. Finally, two attorneys suggested I take on two catastrophically brain injured clients as a case manager. That took hold and now my company, Community Resource Consultants Inc., CRCI, is a client driven case management company with over 70 clients, with six case managers and support staff. We are busy and making a good living and now have offices in Michigan, Florida and California. It is very enjoyable and I wouldn't trade jobs with anyone now. It took a while but I am where I should be.
