Charlie's Story

Life Well how does one start a bio? I could start at the beginning of my life but that would be a little pointless, so I will start at the end of high school. I joined the Navy in Dec '87 and went to Great Lakes, IL for boot camp in Nov '88. Upon completion of boot camp I went to Millington, TN for my basic school for my job in the Navy. I am an Avionics Technician. I troubleshoot and repair electronics systems for the aircraft that the Navy flies. Upon my graduating from that school (Aug 89) I was transferred to NAS Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Washington. I was stationed here for three yrs (89-92). This is where I met the woman that I just knew I was meant to marry. So after 14 months of dating we were married, then I was transferred to the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) an aircraft carrier home ported in Bremerton, Washington. I was onboard the Nimitz for four yrs (92-96). Things were going great for my career. I had been advanced to Third Class Petty Officer (E-4) by this time and my daughter (Tiffany) was about to be born. Well Tiffany was born in Aug ‘92 and things started to go south for me and the wife. She was never home, she decided that she didn't want to be a mother or wife and she left, haven't seen her since '94. In '96 I was transferred back to Oak Harbor via San Diego, CA. By this time I had been advanced to Second Class Petty Officer (E-5) I went to school in San Diego for a couple of months long enough to let me know that I did not want to live in San Diego, California or any other large city with traffic like that. In '96 I met the woman I will spen...Expand for more
d the rest of my life with, Vimel. We were married a year later while I was stationed in Jacksonville, FL. this is the closest I have been stationed to my hometown since joining the Navy. It was a fun time however, Brunswick is not what it used to be. In '99 I was transferred to the USS Bataan (LHD-5), a Multi-Purpose Amphibious Assault Ship, Where I was advanced to First Class Petty Officer (E-6). Basically our job was to transport Marines and their equipment to where they needed to go and repair the helicopters and AV-8B Harriers that they were flying to support the mission whatever it may have been. I was there when Afghanistan was invaded after the September 11 attacks. In Aug 2002 I transferred to NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA where I was assigned as an instructor in Avionics. This tour of duty has been most rewarding, it has shown me what I want to do upon retiring from the Navy. I want to be a teacher. I have been advanced to Chief Petty Officer (E-7), and I am currently under orders to the USS George Washington (CVN-73) another aircraft carrier home ported in Norfolk Virginia. We bought a house a few years ago and do not want to leave the area. It is nice never too hot and no sand gnats like down in Brunswick - Golden Isles area. I do not mind going back to visit. However, I do not intend to go back and live there again. Well I hope that this has told you a little bit about me and my life after high school. I was not at our 10 year reunion because our son, Timothy was being born in Washington. I am hoping to be able to make it to the next reunion.
