Charles's Story

Life Well first let the both of us thank God we are still alive to write and to read this biosketch of Charlie Arnold. How can one condense 50 years into a biographical haiku? I've been married 45 years this coming Dec which tells alot but of course not all of what I think about marriage. Elaine and I have four adult children and three grandchildren. The children were born during a 25 year career in the Air Force. During that time I completed an additional BS degree from Texas A&M University after having graduated from Akron U with a BS in Mathematics and Physics. Later came an MS deg in Meteorology from Penn State, and a Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University. I spent those AF years as a researcher of tropical typhoons and the remote sensing of the atmosphere from satellites. I worked another 12 years as what we call here in Washington DC a beltway bandit for Fairchild Spacecraft Company, NASA, DOD, and others. After a heart attack and triple by-pass in 98 I retired completely at age 58. I've had an abiding interest in Christianity since I knew you back in 58. Our classmate the Rev. Tom Bridges will attest to that. I've taught adult Bible studies for all those 45 years of marriage. I maintain a web site with much of the theological writings I have created over the years, including a Bible study companion. Early this Spring of 08 I began the process of publishing some of these works. The first book to be published, "T...Expand for more
he Eschaton - a Biblical interpretation of the end of the world" has gone through a second publisher and is now available from Xlibris, Amazon.com and all other resellers . A second book "Suffering" is available from Xlibris.com and is currently available everywhere. I'd love to hear from you at c dot arnoldjr at worldnet dot att dot net. The August, 2008 reunion was nice but not enough time for mixing. Charlie College B.S. Mathematics/Physics '62. Theta Chi/Beta Lambda chapter. All nighters 4 nights a week around my dining room table with Stutler, Daisher, Gibson, Zimlansky while we plodded through Analytical geometry, calculus, and Diff equations. When my head wasn't in a math text it was in thermodynamics, German, Western Culture, Chemistry. Weekends spent at Howies on Portage lakes or up at Kent State at the Big House or the Rathskellar, lots of beers, with a stop at Thackers for a dozen hamburgers before calling it a night. Had a number of part time jobs throughout the 4 yrs, mostly working for Firestone YMCA. Dated mostly student nurses, but still kept a flame for Grimes. Drove a '49 Dodge, heavier than a Hummer today. Daisher (a bond of brothers), Bridges (a bond of faith) and I are still good friends and always will be. Ask my wife. I'm definitely stylish. But fashionable? Hardly! My best friends would tell you I'm gregarious, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as solitary. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
