Charles's Story
Life
It has been a long time since I have visited this thread. Hope all are well. I have lived in Juneau Alaska for the last 35 years. I raised two sweet daughters and live alone with my two old cats-lol.
In good health (knock on wood); and Juneau is a sort of sancturay from the hussel and bussel of the lower 48.
Spent most of the last winter in the south seas diving in Hawaii and visiting my younger daughter in New Zealand who was at the university there.
My older daughter went to Berkeley. I tell people she was such a goody two shoes (non of my doing) we were worried about her and figured she needed to learn about sex, drugs and rock and roll-grin.
I am going to California this summer to look up a few old friends. I used to run around with "Bobby" Herr and "Billy" Murdock". Poor Billy had a tough life because of medical reasons and died recently. Bobby went on to be a super star in the legal world.
I often think of my old friends: John Taylor, Judy Blair, David Henry Vicky Gabrielwitz (sic), Betty Dietz, and my poker buddies the Clemmens brothers.
I had a pretty normal life. Was engaged in Alaskan politics in one form or another for 30 years. We fought an honorable fight against the robber barrons-lol. We made them put 25% of the oil money in a permanent fund for our children. It now has 35 billion and pays for all our social service...Expand for more
s. I was the State Director of a couple of agencies.
Went to Contra costa, San Jose State and University of Washington for graduate work.
I was also very involved in the 60's "Counter Culture" movement. The worlds first major existential movement.
I am not sure if this is the thread I posted on many years ago.
It would be nice to hear from some of my old friends.
Cheers, and good luck to all.
Chuck
Bobby Herr was my mentor and saved me from a hard life. He taught me to read and think. He and I played every game in the world, testing our minds against each other. We usually broke even. Even learned two handed bridge. Book had not been checked out since 1926-lol. I went to work in a factory after high school andn bobby went to UC Berkeley. After about 2 years I figured out I beat him at those games as much as he did me. And we werre playing fo rmoney-lol So I quit my job and entered college. It changed my life. I went from a lost soul to a determined existentialist-lol. I got the whole hippie trip from day 1. Filmore and everything. what fun that was and an eye opener. After college I went to Alaska and been here for 40 years. I am moving to Eugene later this year. an old man should be with his people at the end-lol. The best to everyone, Chuck
I have to say, I do miss going into the hills and parking. Why did we ever stop doing that-lol?
