Charles's Story
Life
I teach philosophy and religion at Wesleyan College in Georgia, the oldest (1836) women's college in the world. My wife Sheila and I have been married since 1970; we have two grown children. Since Sheila is British, our children are "haf and hawf." I also am involved in teaching for the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia and the CS Lewis Foundation in California. I am in the early stages of working on two books, both scholarly and therefore not likely to appear on the best-seller lists!
School
My biggest crush was....Oh my gosh! I'm still too embarrassed to say! (And for all I know, she may be dead!) Mr Roberts in biology was one of the best at Garden Grove High, as was Mrs. McClain in her World Geography and Current Events class--an elective that remains with me every single day. As for school itself, it was something to be endured (the purgatory before one entered the paradise of college).

yness, quite a contrast to my present persona. A friend who, years later, called me a "closet extravert" got it about right. One thing took: I caught the teaching bug from Dave Hubbard, Kenneth Monroe, Bob Gundry, Ed Bouslough, and Will Kingma--giants in their day.
Seminary
Four years at Fuller extended my academic interests, saw me make ecclesiastical/theological changes (in a "high church" direction), and brought me in contact with my future wife (a grad student at UCLA).
Post-Seminary
I married, we moved to Georgia and had two kids (now in their thirties), and Sheila and I launched careers as high school teachers in a rural, mainly African-American school system. In the eighties, I took a few years off from teaching and began work on a Ph.D. at Emory University in Atlanta. Even before retiring, I began adjunct teaching in theology at Erskine Theological Seminary and other schools. Now I'm about to retire for the second time and begin a third career as a writer.
