Charles's Story

I attended Statesville Senior High and graduated in 1976. I attended the US Coast Guard Academy and then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1980 with a double major in physics and geology. I went to graduate school at the University of Arizona and received my PhD in Geophysics (Planetary Sciences minor) in 1990. I have lived numerous places since graduate school, including New Jersey, California, Reading (England), and New York. I am presently living in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, near the capital city of Wellington. I work as a geodynamic modeller at GNS Science in New Zealan...Expand for more
d, studying earthquakes and volcanoes. I married Rachel Carlson Williams in 1998 and we have two boys -- Clark (16) and Bryce (15). We moved here in 2011, so our boys have now lived here for over half their lives. They still sound pretty American, but they have picked up a lot of Kiwi culture (such as learning how to play cricket). We live in the bush (lots of native trees and birds) with a nice view of Wellington Harbor. I am unlikely to ever pay to join Classmates, but if anyone wants to get in touch, you can find my contact info at the GNS Science website. It would be great to hear from some of my old classmates!
