Charlie's Story
Life
Anyone who knew me in school knows that I was far more interested in hangin' out with my friends and having fun than I was in schoolwork. I had all the ability I needed to be a successful student but I sure didn't have the attitude. It was 18 years between high school and marriage and in that time I had nearly that many jobs. I liked most of them but I got bored easily and was soon looking for something better. Along the way I learned to play the guitar and was told I had a fairly good singing voice. I played with a local band for nearly 15 years, at parties, weddings , etc. We played for the Redwood Class of '68 20th reunion. I guess you would say the high point was when we opened for the Platters at Tagus Ranch in June of '88. It was a high point in more ways than one. That was also the weekend I met my future wife. I stopped playing rock music in 2001, not because I didn't like it, but I wanted to save what little hearing I had left! I still play but now it's only in church. I've been a Christian since '81 and teach Bible studies from time to time. I also write gospel songs occasionally. Over the years I've often wondered what ...Expand for more
became of some of the people I went to school with. I've always felt that even though we may not see each other for years, the friends I had are just as important to me now as they were then. To me, when I see an old friend, it's like the years never happened. The good memories sweep away whatever bad there might be and it's one of the nicest experiences in life. I don't know who will read this, if anyone, but please know that if we were friends then we're friends now, and if we weren't, I hope we get another chance!...
In the three years since I wrote the above, things have changed some. In November of '07 I was ordained a minister in the Free Will Baptist denomination. I am now the pastor at a small church in Orange Cove, Calif. I still live in Ivanhoe, so we drive about 50 miles round trip each week. We love it! I'm still playing guitar and leading songs, and I still ride my motorcycle ('04 Honda VTX 1800 ) every chance I get. And life goes on...
...and on! I'm still pastoring in Orange Cove,(it's now 2011) and still lovin' it! God has been so good to us! I must admit I'm a little heavier than I was, but, then again, who isn't? :o)
