Charlotte's Story
I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. I moved here eleven years ago after being a part time resident for 8 years. I love, love, love this rock!
Let's see, after HS I traveled and then went back home to California.
In the early 70's I lived in Manzanillo, Mexico for 6 months just to see what it was like. Learned Spanish, swam with the dolphins and when I was finished I went home to the real world.
Because my folks remained in Terrace I bounced back and forth between Calif and Terrace for years. I maintained friendships in Canada that last to this day despite me being so "american", whatever that means, as one of my friends says to me. :)
When I was 27 I settled down in San Diego, met my husband and got on with the business of being responsible. I went back to school at Cal State Fullerton at night, worked at an accounting firm full time during the day and managed to keep house, have a married life and raise two step sons. In 1984 I achieved my MSA degree in accounting. Just writing that makes me exhausted to the bone!
For the next 30 or so years I did all the right things and endured an ever increasing ennui.

and left me, I was 59 when I quit plotting his death.
Today we are separated permanently but remain friends, and we talk often. We own too much together to tear our lives apart with a divorce. And it works fine the way we are.
*Addendum: I have now been divorced for 18 months. My step son and his family are still very much my family, Rick has remarried, he and Sue live in Oregon and we actually get along well.
So, here I am in Paradise doing exactly what I please. Traded in the SUV for a VW bug, carry beach towels and water for the dogs, Longboard beer for me and once again life is wonderful.
At 62 I took up sit on top ocean kayaking. I've had a lot of fun with it and a few hairy moments. I do a lot of solo runs and out there on the ocean I am always reminded of the power of the sea. Last time I went out, I did a three mile run up the coast and the wind came up. It was exciting making it back to the launch. That's the trip a rogue wave knocked me out of my kayak, that scared me and was a good reminder to stay alert.
Of course there is way more than this but it's almost inconsequential. Hope life has been good to you too.
