Charlotte's Story

Life In a nutshell: Married in '76 and lived in Germany for a year. Moved to Seneca Falls, NY and had 2 daughters. Christina, 29, has her masters and teaches Tech Ed at Mynderse Academy here in Seneca Falls. She's been married for 4 years. She and her husband Mike have a daughter, Juliette, born 5/28/08. Wendy, 25, attended Ithaca College and received her Dr. degree in Physical Therapy in Dec. She is my world traveler. For, example,in 2005 she spent 3 weeks with her boyfriend in Europe traveling mostly by train. She lives and works in Hartford, CT. Her boyfriend just passed the NY and CT Bar. I got my bachelors in Occupational Therapy in '91 and divorced in '94. Married Steve Lind in '96. Steve has spina bifida and is a wheelchair user. He works part time for BJ's Wholesale Club in Geneva. We still live in Seneca Falls and get back to Friendship 3-4 times a year to visit my family. I had to stop work in 2001 because of depression and back problems. Since then have been unable to return to OT work and have worked several different part time jobs. Currently babysit Juliette 5 days a week, do private home care for 2 hours per day 6 days a week, and am a peer advocate in mental health 5 hours a week. I'm also active in the Methodist Church here, singing in choir, getting scripture readers for Sunday services, and am lay member to annual conference. Occasionally I even preach! In my spare time I walk, read, sew, and am addicted to sudoku puzzles. We have a cat, Sophie. It seems like just yesterday that we graduated from Friendship. I would love to hear from you. School Remember Halloween in Friendship? I recall contests where each class painted a storefront window. Did we make floats for a parade? And then off to the gym for costume judging, snacks etc. I recall dressing up with my friends as The Adams Family! How about all those dances where the music was loud and the lights low, and we all made out in the dark. What about those dancing lessons before the prom? What abou...Expand for more
t parties drinking Boone's Farm from the bottle? Of course our Class of '76 made history with our food booth at the County Fair and our class trip by bus to Florida. Do you recall who stood up in front of Mr. Hood's biology class and impersonated him and his crooked middle finger? Remember tootsie roll pops during final exams? What about the year regents exams were stolen and our grades were our class average? I sure got a gift then. The teacher that inspired me most was Mrs. Kingdom in 6th grade. That's a start... Does anyone have more? Workplace My first job after high school was picking grapes in the Finger Lakes wine country in the fall of '78. It was a blast! I earned enough to buy a freezer! Then I did inventory for my landlord in Lodi, NY where he owned a hardware store. After moving to Seneca Falls and having a baby in '79, I did a variety of jobs including babysitting in my home, house cleaning for a neighbor, and home care for an 18 y.o. with MD. Between colleges I worked as a nurses aid at Seneca Nursing Home. While at Keuka College I was in the work study program doing some housekeeping in the dorms. During that time I also worked part time for ARC. My first job as an OT after college was at Van Duyne Nursing Home in Syracuse. I was there 3+ years and then worked at Clifton Springs Hospital for 3+ years. I was asked to "resign" my position there and found the job of my dreams 1 month later at Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service in Geneva, NY. Unfortunately I burned out at that job and ended up in the mental health unit at Penn Yan hospital. At that same time my scoliosis reared its ugly head and I experienced severe back pain for several years. With that has come many physical limitations. Since then I have had a number of jobs. Mostly under the table and related to home care. Right now I am a full time babysitter for my grandaughter, Juliette and also work part time at a social club for those who are receiving services from Seneca County Mental Health.
