Charlyn's Story

I am from Alexandria, Virginia. I moved in 1981 with my family to Arlington, Texas, then a few years later to Azle, Texas. I wasn't very active in school events or very social at that time, but I am probably the girl you remember blasting heavy metal in the parking lot and I wore black high heel boots all the time. I definitely was a rock and roller and it showed. During my seinor year at Azle High, my family hosted a foreign student, Jens Lidholm, from Sweden. Our exchange student, Jens, was incredibly popular and so much fun all the time, so most of my classmates remember him very well, and only knew me as who he lived with. Music I like includes 8675309 (Tommy Tutone), Puddle of Mudd, Mudvayne, sia, Fuel, 3 Doors Down, Dave Matthews, The Beatles, Metallica, Incubus, Pentatonix, Eminem, Rihanna, Linkin Park, pink, Hillsong UNITED, Crowder, David Guetta, AWOLNATION, Chevelle, - - basically all kinds of music More about Charlyn:"I love to tinker with cars, build things, and try out new hobbies....and I am really into Self-sufficient living ideas! I have my own pottery studio, where I can experiment constantly. I have three children--Joshua, Jacob, Jay James. They are 12 years old, 5 years old and 2 years old. I love kids, love music and movies, classical literature, classic cars and dirt track racing, and working with clay as well as other art media like glass and stone. I live in another small town now, Venus, Texas, but my parents lived on the same property as when I was in school up until their death in 2012, three months apart. I went to University of Texas at Arlington, and majored in Aerospace Engineering for 2 years and transferred to get a B.A. in Russian, with a minor in International Relations/law from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1994. I went back for my M.A. a year or two later after working for AT & T Global and then as a government contractor supplying the armed forces, mostly. At some point, I started making things out of clay just for a hobby, but when I was offered a job doing it fulltime, I realized it was worth it to give up the big paycheck...Expand for more
for loving my job, and I've been broke but happier ever since! I never married (but my children all have the same father). I have lived off and on back in Azle with my parents since my mom was diagnosed with cancer and I took care of her and my father until they died September, 2012 and January 2013. Finally, I want to say that it's completely Drew Savage's fault I even logged on here, much less gave my life story! If he hadn't left me in his senior will back in high school, I wouldn't have logged on, since I seriously doubt anyone other than YOU, Drew, will read this, much less remember me--except for the guy who always wore dark shades and looked totally stoned or bored in class. I think it was called O.C.E or something like that--and he probably only remembers me because we had a GIANT keg party senior year, and I tried to beat him up because his g/f slapped one of my best friends.) And THAT was a memorable night! I remember I had WAY too much trashcan punch and for some reason decided he wasn't too big for me to fight when he refused to take his g/f and leave. It really was comical, I'm sure, and to this day I'm grateful he was kind enough not to hurt me too badly <laughing>. That party is probably the only other thing anyone in school would remember me for--our house was on Silvercreek Road with a HUGE pasture--and my mom and dad allowed the alcohol, but locked the gate so no one could leave until morning. The police came, but my mom wouldn't let them on her private property <laughing>. The principal was so mad about it, he called mom on the next Monday morning to yell at her, and she politely (well, she was really more like barely civil, I think) told him he couldn't do anything about it since it was not at or during school. I bet he was glad I graduated :) So there you go, Drew. I've finally paid you back for leaving your will to me in the yearbook, in 1987. I remember you best of all. You were my friend, you were my partner in crime, sometimes, and you kept me from taking myself too seriously. Oh yeah, and better than anything else, you were my ride! ROFL!
