Cheanne's Story

Let me give a quick history from 1972 until now. 1972-1973 I attended Northwestern Michigan College in commercial art. Then Dec.1973,I married Bert Notestine. We moved to Petoskey on his farm. We raised and showed Quarter Horses and boarded others. Can't believe I left college to be married. August 1977 my son was born. Beginning in 1983 I went to work in various jobs until 1988 when I attended school for my Michigan paramedic license. I was employed by Northern Michigan Hospital until 1997 when I went to Kinross, Mi. to work as a medic. In 1999 I returned to Petoskey and became manager of the ambulance Co. In 2001 I decided management was not worth the stress and returned to being a road medic with the same company. I am still employed with this company in St. Ignace. ought 23 acres near Paradise, Mi. on a river. We built a cabin and this is our getaway from civilization. That same year my son graduated from Petoskey High and went on to Lake Superior State Univ. He graduated in 1999 with a bachelor's in criminal justice then went on to police academy. He is now employed in Rawlins, Wyoming with the state corrections department. I have 1 grandaughter who is living in Sault Ste. Marie, Mi. with her mother. In 2002 I was divorced from Bert and I moved to a cabin in the woods of Paradise, Mi. where I live with my wolves, sled dogs, Rottweiler and partner. Len is an outdoor writer and author of 12 outdoor books. We have a great time kayaking, backpacking, snowshoeing and mushing. While not a wealthy person, I enjoy a lifestyle that is comfortale and adventurous

Happiest of Father’s Days to one of the world’s best Dads. So lucky to have you as mine. May we celebrate many, many more.
Grand Sable Lake. No cabins around this beautiful lake.
Grand Sable Dunes looking across the lake.
Dad walking down the boat ramp at Grand Sable Lake. Pretty good for someone 90 yrs old, eh?
Words to live by. Wishing you all a safe and happy 4th of July.
New Year's Eve day - a gorgeous day for exploring.
Len and I went out on the ice at Whitefish Point yesterday. Awesome trip with high wind and huge waves breaking over the ice shelf. It was easier and more fun to come down off the shelf on one's backside as it was too sli
And today's adventure is......snowshoeing with friends Roger and Diane. A little new snow falling, a cozy campfire in a cozy spot on Andres Lake.
Yesterday's adventures in the ice caves.
So, we didn't get the kayaks out today. However, we did go for a nice long hike in the woods. Len is taking a break with Shasta Daisy giving him kisses.
A wonderful, Happy Mother's Day to my mom, Carolyn Chellis and to all mother's.
Who is that guy out in the woods?
Our cabin. It's good to things turning green and growing.
Unlikely sisters. Meesha, the Rottweiler, doesn't even want to go outside unless Moki goes.
Old hornet nest. They are such amazing little engineers.
A happy and safe Memorial Day to all.
The little spring house at Camp Elliott. Inside there is a barrel over the spring with the sweetest tasting water you could want. It's soothing to watch the little springs bubbling in the bottom.
So, today after I washed clothes, wrote to Len, mixed and poured cement in the dog kennels, I was looking at my knife collection. This is Fieldcraft by Brothers of Bushcraft. It is number 97 of production and one of my fa
Another favorite in my collection, a traditional hunter with antler handle, by Northwoods Knives.
Today's work and there are still so many outside my house that I can't possibly pick them all. These will be great this winter.
