Cher's Story
Workplace
I had mostly administrative management jobs through college years, then became a full-time mom when my first son was born in 1992. I was still at home when my second son was born in 1995, however, I had started a private swimming instruction school out of my home and was well established in the area. Holly Whelchel, IB Class of '86, ironically lives in my same town here in Florida. We ran into each other in the ladies room at a Mets game (Port St. Lucie, Fl is the winter home of the NY Mets). Mary Beaupre was with me at the time. It was so weird! Holly called one day and asked if I would be a hostess in one of the new home models in THE RESERVE, where she worked at the time. It was on the weekend, so I said yes. I accidently sold one of the houses! The people there said some big company was looking to buy the neighborhood and could they call me for work in the fall. I said "Sure!" Well, sure enough, they called and I was offered a full-time weekend position as a secretary and front desk receptionist. My boss, and current mentor, however, was relentless in his persuation for me to get my real estate license. Finally, I did. PGA of America had ...Expand for more
come here as well and bought the four golf courses and the country clubs. They changed the name to PGA Village. I spent two years selling resales, and now I'm selling new homes for 5 builders and Kolter, the developer. My favorite part is doing custom home designs for my clients. I get a lot of satisfaction helping people create their "Dream House" from scratch and then watching it become their reality. I truly am blessed to work in one of the prettiest places on the planet! Holly doesn't work here, though. She quit before I started in 1998. We see each other occasionally though and talk on the phone. We try to keep each other posted as to what's going on at home when we get any news. Mary is back in IL.
Wow...I wrote all that when I first signed up with Classmates.com many years ago (2002 or 2003?). It is now 2009. I just changed jobs. As there is no new construction business to be had, I am now working for RE/MAX of Stuart, FL and getting my certification as a distressed property expert! What a change...but so many people need help. I do what I can everyday to get them re-financed, sold, or placed in a rental while the dust in this market settles.
