Cheri's Story
personally, there is not too much to say. ken haarala and i started dating in hi school. we married in fall of 1960 and we are still "childhood" sweethearts--53 years this sept. we raised a family of two sons and a daughter. one son lives near us in highland and the other son and daughter live in the 'burbs of sacramento, ca. however, before moving to redlands, ken and i lived for 35 years in devore,ca where we raised our children as well as bred/trained/rode tennessee walking horses. our children all rode and horse camped with us until they began to drive. i still have a horse and ride 3 to 4 days a week. workwise, like many fontana guys ken worked at kaiser steel as laborer and then as an electrician. after leaving the mill, ken worked i...Expand for more
n retail for a short time. following that ken became a member of the teamster union driving for ups. he left ups to become a teamster business agent and more recently an as an elected teamster official. as for me, after being a stay at home mom/horse trainer, i moved into the business world and worked as an jack of all trades in banking finally becoming an auditor. at ken's urging i went back to school in the late 70's receiving my m.a. in special education (with four teaching credentials in 85). i taught in several local school districts including a year at fohi as well as at cal state and valley college. i retired in '04 after 20 years of teaching. now i am a wife, equestrian, grandmother, and a part time doodler in the flower beds.
