Cherlyn "Cheri"'s Story
Life
After MAC, I attended the Univ. of TX Health Science Center where I graduated from the School of Nursing, then the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences with a Master's degree. I began my career as an ICU/Trauma nurse & clinical educator at the Medical Center in San Antonio. I met my husband while attending an Anatomy class at the Medical School.
After medical school, we moved to North Texas for his residency and began our family. I worked as a Clinical Specialist for 2 hospitals there and began a second career as a Fashion & Image Consultant with a dept. store chain in North Texas. After residency & a year of private practice we moved to Houston, where my husband joined the faculty of the UT Medical School Family Practice Residency program.
We had child # 3 and I worked part-time at an outpatient surgery center & an emergency dept., then began a small business as an Image Consultant.
Four years later, we moved to Wash, DC area where my husband began a new career as a doctor with the US State Department. A year later we began travelling overseas as diplomats w/ the US Embassy. We have since lived on all the (habitable) continents beginning with East Africa (Tanzania), then South America (Argentina), followed by Australia, India, Singapore, Budapest, Hungary, Athens, Greece and finally, London, UK.
We have enjoyed travelling the globe, meeting many interesting and high profile people, and discovering and trying new things. I have enjoyed working as a fashion & jewelry designer, and having my own boutique. I started an import/e...Expand for more
xport business while in India and have also worked with interior design, and as an events planner and consultant for private clubs, as well as a clinical consultant for medical centers overseas. The past 5 years, I've had the privilege of working for 3 US Ambassadors and meeting many interesting and influential people. We recently bought a home in north Houston and are enjoying being back in the US near family and friends.
Our kids are true "TCK's" (third culture kids) having grown up & attended private schools abroad until enrolling in university back in the US. Our son is a UT grad, PPA/CPA, and is currently attending seminary in Louisville,KY. Our younger daughter graduated from Baylor University in nutrition science and Biochemistry. And our elder daughter has blessed us with three adorable little girls while working toward her degree. She currently lives in Minnesota.
I feel that I have been very privileged and blessed by God with life-long friends all over the world, a wonderful family, the opportunity to see the world & connect with other people, languages & cultures and learn many new things. Of course there have been difficult & trying times (whose life is without that?) but I am grateful for those times too because they produce growth and character. My ultimate desire is that God will use my life to make a measurable difference in the lives of other people whose paths I cross. I have certainly been impacted & changed by other people in my own life. It's an exciting journey...you never know what's around the corner!
