Cheri's Story
Life:
I went to work directly after high school graduation.......no fun & games for me! Had a serious relationship the following year; it didn't work out, but it produced my oldest son. Left the San Fernando Valley in 1987 for a taste of small town living in WA, mainly so my son could grow up in a better environment. Got married in 1991, that didn't work out, but it gave me my youngest son and a step-daughter (she has 2 children who call me "Grammy", and I adore them!). Right before divorce, another step-daughter was born. Divorced the creep, but kept the step-daughters :-) I'm immensely proud of all of them. We lost my brother, Randy, in 1996 to suicide....that was the hardest situation I've ever dealt with. He left behind a beautiful daughter whom I adore. Put my choir/music skills to use and started a Karaoke/DJ business in 2000. It went GREAT and thrived for 11 years...I loved it! Started a custom wood shop in 2007, and I was bought out in 2014. My 16 year relationship with the person I started 2 businesses with abruptly ended in June of 2014, but I am OKAY with it. I still have my family and close friends for support, and I love them dearly. For the most part....Life is WONDERFUL! I'm still working on my book, along with other projects, and keep busy with a well a balanced life of PEACE, HARMONY, LOVE & MUSIC!
School:
Don't have many memories of Vena Ave...I was there K-3rd...except Mrs.Shotbolt! That hair-do, that funny smelling coffee cup! Went to Montague St. for only 4th.....not many thoughts there. Beachy Ave for 5th & 6th...my 2 best friends there were Carolyn & Iselda. Byrd was a kick! Mr.Taylor, Mrs.Bodey, Mr.Miller, all were inspirat...Expand for more
ional for me. I met 3 great friends there...Jan, Esther & Terri, whom I've lovingly memorialized in a tattoo. Poly was cool, although I ditched more than I was there. My favorite classes were Careers With Children, Speech, English, Yoga, Horticulture. The teacher that sticks out in my mind is Chuck Hammond.....cool, but UN-orthodox! He wrote in my yearbook......"Forgiveness is the scent left on the heel of the boot that crushes it". Uh, okay!
Workplace:
I started out after high school to be a early childhood education teacher, but I never got the time to go to college for it. I have worked in several preschools and every once in a while I go back and do it again because I still love working with kids. My other passion is restaurant work......in the kitchen. I'd LOVE to open a restaurant/night club sometime soon. I am very happy with how well my DJ/Karaoke business went for 11 years. Where else can you listen to tunes, entertain an audience, mingle with people, and get paid? It turned out to be fun AND rewarding! My custom wood shop was successful for 7 years, and now I sold my 1/2 to my partner. What's next for me? I am taking a break to deal with medical issues and surgeries to correct them. I will be contemplating para-legal work, a driving position, or the cruise-ship industry. I've been asked "Don't you wish you had a CAREER?" My answer is: I really can't see myself at the same company for a lifetime career...or even at the same profession for that matter. I'm always having to do something different, something new...I get bored easily! Life is too short to be stuck in repetition and besides, I like the roller coaster, not the merry-go-round!
