Cheri's Story
Life
Cheri Ann (Workman) Moore graduated from Franklin High School in Portland OR and pursued a degree at Northwest Christian College and the University of Oregon until 1980. During that time she met and Married Gregory Hayden Moore of Ashland OR, a fellow student. In 1980 Greg and Cheri moved to Portland and became the proud parents of a son, John William Moore. From Â80-Â83 Cheri happily settled into Âmommy mode and cared for John and several short term foster children. In 1983 Greg, Cheri & John packed up and moved to Spokane WA where Greg accepted a position with the United States Postal Service. In February 1987 Cheri lost her father, Jack C. Workman, to a stroke. June of 1987 found Greg and Cheri welcoming a daughter, Heather Lynn Moore into their family. Cheri lost her mother, Margret Helen (Trueax) Workman in 2002.
During her years in Spokane Cheri has been active with Family, Church and Community issues. Her current activities include;
Cheri serves as the Executive Director of the Miss SpokaneÂs Outstanding Teen Committee which is the teen side of the Miss Spokane Scholarship Organization an official preliminary of the Miss America Scholarship Organization. Active in Camp Fire since she was old enough to be a Bluebird in 1967, Cheri currently serves with her daughter a volunteer Leader for Club of Kindergarten-4th graders. She is also a Leadership Trainer, an occasional Camp counselor and a member of her Councils Board of Trustees. Politics have always interested Cheri and she has worked on many campaigns from local to national. Some of the ones she is proudest to say she was involved with include; Former WA Governor Booth Gardner, The Spokane Campaign for a new Arena (which we finally...Expand for more
have), Former Governor Mike Lowry- where she served as the Eastside Coordinator, Former President William Jefferson (Bill) Clinton Âshe served as Eastside director for the coordinated campaign for the entire Democratic ticket. She is a past candidate for the State house and a former 3 term Legislative District Leader.
Cheri has always been an active member of her Church and has served as Youth Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, Greeter and has even preached on occasion. She currently hosts a weekly interdominational WomenÂs Bible Study in her home.
Love of family has always been first in CheriÂs heart and her two children and five grandchildren are her pride and joy. John Married Tonee Morris, his High School sweetheart, in 1999 and they have five wonderful children. Angel Rose  2000, Estalla Linn  2002, Tyree Elizabeth  2004, John William Jr. (J.J.)  2006 and Erika Grace  2007. John is an Assistant Manager for Rite Aide and a Seminary student majoring in Youth Ministries and Business Management. Tonee is a busy homemaker.
Heather served two terms as an Americorps Volunteer assigned to Camp Fire where she worked in low income areas providing quality after school programming for grade school kids. She is currently working for KinderCare as the Lead 2 year old classroom teacher and is a part  time student at the local community college.
Greg and Cheri have continued to take in Foster children occasionally over the years, the most recent in the summer of Â06. They have also been active in two Japanese home stay programs and often have High School or College students in their home for anything from a weekend to a three week stay.
In her spare time Cheri enjoys reading, beading, sewing, cooking- Japanese, Italian & Greek are her favorites, gardening, hiking, camping and anything with the kids or grandkids. Cheri and her family are restoring a 1923 Model T Ford that belonged to GregÂs grandfather.
