Cherokee's Story
A real quick recap of the last 35 years. As it turned out, I made history in the USAF by becoming the first female to complete Nuclear Armament Systems training becoming a Nuclear Armament System Specialist in 1979. I served a total of 12.5 years in the USAF before the Air Force was reduced in size in 1992 (Congressional Mandate) I with thousands of other Nuclear Specialists were forced to leave the USAF early before retirement (DoD Forced Reduction Program, reducing the size of the military globally). While on active duty, I served at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada, Hahn AB, Germany, Luke AFB, Arizona, Nellis AFB, and RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom. d Iraq loading the A-10 aircraft during Gulf War One. During my time in the USAF, I troubleshot, repaired and loaded munitions on various USAF fighter aircraft (F4, A-10, F-16, F-15 and F-111). I have visited or have been deployed to over 40 countries globally. I currently am employed with the USAF in a civilian capacity working within the F-22 Program and I recently completed F-35 aircraft training. I am married to Tom Wharton of Brooklyn, New York (who is retired after 26 years in the USAF) and we have four children and ten grandchildren with two more grandchildren on the way. I still love to travel, last year I was able to travel to Sidney, Australia, Europe, Canada, South Carolina, Texas and Hawaii. We love to travel and drive seeing new sites,
