Cheryl's Story

Life Since leaving Greendale in Sept of 1968, I have lived in Central Florida. I met my husband, John, in Avon Park where I graduated from high school. This December we will celebrate 37 years. We have two wonderful sons and two beautiful daughter-in-laws. This past fourteen months have been the hardest of my life. My mother, who lives in Ohio, had hip surgery, I changed jobs, and my husband and mother have both gone through cancer treatment. Our faith has kept us going and we're looking forward to a bright future. On a brighter note, last summer I went to Ohio to help celebrate my dad's 80th birthday and this summer I went again to celebrate my mom's 80th and my parent's 60th anniversary. Overall, life has been good. I went back to college in 2000 and became a CPA in 2004. We have done quite a bit of traveling in the US (including Hawaii in 1987) and Jamaica for a missions trip outside Kingston. My younger son, Jared, is a sargent in the Marines and is part of the Presidential Squadron stationed in Virginia. He has traveled quite a bit since joining the squadron in 2006, the latest being Poland, New Hampshire and Texas. Quite an adventure. My older son, Donald, recently moved from Florida to Mississippi so his wife could attend Reformed Theological Seminary. Donald & his wife are both graduates of the University of Florida (Go Gators!!) a...Expand for more
nd are naturally proud of their school. No grandchildren, yet, only grand-dogs. Maybe one day. (Sigh) Aug 2008 - Since my last posting, we now have two grandchildren - one girl born in June and a boy born in July. Fast forward to Dec 2014 - I now have another granddaughter born in 2013 & a grandson born this year. My husband & I just celebrated our 44th anniversary. My mom passed away in 2009 but my dad is still doing well at 88. Travel usually involves visiting the kids in NC or MS, but we did manage a trip to the state of Washington. Mt Rainier was worth the trip alone. However, the Chihuly Gardens & Glass were a close second with beautiful works of blown glass that were amazing. 2020 - How life has changed in the past six years. In Dec 2017, my husband of 47 years passed away after an 12 year battle with Multiple Myeloma (cancer of the plasma cells). Six months later, my dad passed away at almost 92 years of age. I left FL in Aug 2019 and moved to my happy place - the mountains of North Carolina. I have always loved hiking and now am able to do it quite often, usually taking in a beautiful waterfall along the way. Both sons have also moved. The older one is in South Carolina, only an hour away from me. The younger is finishing up year 19 with the Marine Corp. He had returned to school and became an officer and is now a captain stationed in south FL.
