Cheryl's Story

Life Married to former E.U. art professor in '81,"retired" to sunny North Carolina. Like everyone, endured the typical bumps in the road while becoming supposedly older and wiser. I am a landscape pastel/stained glass artist who also dabbles in creating jewelry. Feel free to visit my online gallery on Absolutearts.com or just google my name, and say hi! We have two beautiful children, Doug and Juli who are preparing to go their own way. Doug has an apt., is working and going to comm. college f.t., has his own apt., and hopes to head to Full Sail Univ. in Fla. soon. Juli just started comm. college and plans to transfer to Chapel Hill. She already nearly lives there with the many friends she has made. We also share our home with Richard's mom, who has Alzheimer's. She has lived with us for several years, now. We have a comfortable ranch home with his and her art studios on 6 acres w/a pond that I like to photograph, and lots of wildlife. We share the house with our numerous pets, all rescues. We are a cat/kitten rescue and foster family/haven (115 cats fostered and adopted out in '08!). I volunteer with our local humane society. I rotated off the exec. board recently to concentrate on doing MORE art! We are spay/neuter activists. It is amazingly rare we have a stray wander up. The other day, I took a stray in for a neuter and vaxes. The vet tech said "No wonder! Look what happens to them when they do!" Darn straight, no rabies tag or ID, I consider it a stray. I used to do organic gardening when time permitted but there a are no longer enough hours in a day, so I shop locally. I justify not having a garden so I can support those around me who garden for their lively hood. (After all, when all was said and done, my peppers probably cost me $5 each to grow!). We have our health; life is very good! Added 3/09 It is great to see old names, even not-so-familiar names, as well as people's location-destinations! I am trying to reciprocate, but with so little time, it is hard. I posted a gorgeous Lake Erie sunset taken this past summer. What a gem Lake Erie Presque Isle still is! I was fortunate to rally the family together in the summer of '08, including 93 year old live-in Mother-in-law with Alzheimer's, and travel from N.C. to Pa...Expand for more
. to spend a week in a beach front cottage on Kelso. The trip brought back such great memories! My family used to rent a Kelso cottage when I was growing up. Our kids really enjoyed the week. They spent a lot of time with visiting family and old friends they went to school with when living in Edinboro, and trolling the beach during the day seeking kids to build nightly bon fires with. I met up with former class-mates and best friends, Randy Gray and family, and Cindy Taylor! Presque Isle was always my favorite place to be while growing up. I baby-sat for 50 cents an hour so I could purchase an English racing bike at the age of 14. That bike was my ticket to ride. I'd often biked from east Erie (near the defunct Mason's dept. store), all the way around, the peninsula. Then, having baby-sat a couple more years at a $1.00 an hour, I bought a well kept blue Chevy Caprice that I could barely reach the pedals to, and sat on several pillows to see out the windshield. It was immaculate until I lit an incense cone placed on the dash board and forgot about it... I bought the car before I even had my license. After years of enduring the bus rides, I loved to drive to school and esp. drive to Presque Isle any time of day or eve.! I still dream of living beach/water front one day, but it will probably be coastal N.C./S.C.. Speaking of water-front living, I remember when the P.I. beach front condo's were built and did not sell very quickly, as people were skeptical about their construction and beach erosion. It was nice to visit this summer and see they are still standing! : ) They were going for around $100,000 when built. They were a steal! Speaking of beachy memories, one high school memory was when a few of us from the class of '75 skipped to go to the beach for the day. A beach phone booth rang, and I picked up. It was WJET Radio Station with Cash Call, of all things! You had to guess the correct amount of money in the jack pot. If you are correct, you won that amount. No one knew the exact amount, but we were not far off. I figured just as well, I'd have some explaining to do when I got home had I won. Actually, I did get caught on that skip day ONLY because Steve Kinross left his beach junk in my trunk, and went to my house to ask my mother for it!!!
