Cheryl's Story
Life
My biggest accomplishment has been believing in myself and achieving my goals. Positive thinking is so powerful and rewarding because it enables you to overcome negative obstacles that hinder self-development while it allows you to remain focused and determined to succeed. As a teacher, I have learned the virtues of many things among them patience, perserverance and having principles. My family has given me so much support, especially my mom. Outside of the serious stuff, I'm a pretty easy-going, laid-back kind of person. I'm somewhat of a healthnut in that I watch what I eat and I exercise regularly. A dream of mine is to run in a marathon, even if I'm the last one to cross the line. I like outdoor jazz concerts in the summer, camping (although it's been a while) and meeting people. One of my biggest weaknesses is chocolate, that is dark chocolate like the ...Expand for more
kind in chocolate chip cookies, except I just eat the chocolate morsels right out of the bag. If given the opportunity, I would travel, meet people and experience new cultlures.
College
If attended Scripps College from 1972-1976. My major was French Civilization with a minor in the Humanities. As required by my major, I spent a year abroad in France and traveled to England and Germany. That was a very enlightening experience and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to have traveled and studied there. I attended California State University at Northridge from 1988-1992. My major was Linguistics with a TESL track minor. Although initially, getting adjusted to studying and writing papers again was challenging after a 13 year break from academics, I managed to pull through and now I'm working in a field I really enjoy as an ESL consultant and instructor.
