Cheryl's Story
Life
One question asked was how do I feel about my life right now. I answered right where I thought I would be. And that is pretty much right on the money. Some things could be different (I wouldn't complain) but I really can't imagine being happier. Would love to see old friends from years past. That would make life a little sweeter.
School
I have two regrets about my school life. I was just too doggone quiet and shy. Can't really tell you why but I'm free of that now. Can't accuse me of not saying my peace or keeping my mouth shut. The first time I was told to please be quiet during a meeting, I loved it!!!!
The other regret is that I was forced to go to Tompkins for my senior year. It doesn't matter. In my heart, I will always be a REBEL and that's why I put myself under Groves.
Sorry I've missed all of the reunions. Hope to get to the next one.
College
I started college right out of high school but due to the necessities of life, didn't finish and graduate until 1993. I got my associate degree in nursing and then went back for a bachelors...Expand for more
degree. I'm presently in the middle of getting my masters. My son asked me to stop so that I could be home with him. They're only little once, aren't they? So, I stopped school. But I'm ready to go back now. I like going to school. Last time I checked at Armstrong, classes were free (for people over 60). Hey, if that's the case, I can earn a lot of degrees after I retire. It'll keep me out of trouble anyway.
Workplace
At present I'm not working. I'm a house-daughter!! My father died August 2008 and I'm taking care of my mother. My mother's not ready for a nursing home and we decided that this was the best we could do. Now we can take off whenever we want to.
Military
I joined the Georgia Air National Guard in 1975 and retired in 1995. It was a great experience. Anyone who remembers me from school knows that I was probably the shy-est kid around. Now I don't know when to shut up at times. I can speak in front of large crowds without my knees shaking now. And I owe the military a lot for bringing me out of myself. Thanks Air Guard!!!!!!!
