Cheryl's Story
After graduation went to Glendale Community College, got an A. A. Met my husband at GCC. We got married in 1972. Worked at Woolco (31st Ave. and Indian School, remember?). Worked some part-time jobs. Had a son. Moved to Prescott Valley in 1979. Had a daughter and another son. Did some in-home child care. Went back to school when youngest went to first grade. Got B. A. in Education degree in 1995. Substitute teacher for 8 years. During that time went back to school for Special Education certification and Reading Specialist endorsement. Master's degree in Early Childhood Education in May, 2011. ed in 2017. I have three granddaughters. They have all played club softball for many years. 2 are pitchers and 1 plays 3rd base. My husband retired, after driving fuel tankers at night all over AZ for 24 years, in 2020 and we have more time to go to their games. My mother lived in our house on Roma until 1990 and passed away in 2019. My father passed away in 1994 with early onset Alzheimers symptoms starting at 53. My younger sister Lydia passed away at 46 in 2006 in a car accident. She was my only sibling. I miss her dearly. I’m a 6 year breast cancer survivor after getting excellent care at Banner M D Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert. Early detection saves lives. My husband and I celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary on May 26, 2022. I posted pictures here from the day of our party.
