Cheryl's Story

Life After High School, I attended the Nursing program at Cerritos College. When I graduated from there I worked at a hospital in Los Angeles, before moving to Washington State in 1970. I worked at University Hospital in Seattle for several years in the Spinal Cord Injuries Department. Then I changed specialties and went to work in an Alzheimer's Unit, also in Seattle. In 1983 I adopted a beautiful little boy named Paul, who also happened to be my Nephew, and who will be 18 years old soon. In August of 1997, Bill Burger, also a Lancer, sent me an e-mail that changed my life! He found this site one week after I did. After the initial e-mail..answer and follow-up phone calls, we visited back and forth, commuting between two states and on December 20, 1997, we were married. In October of 1999 we moved to our present home here in Norco, California. We are truly blessed to have found one another again, and we thank God for that every day..and also Randy and Sharon Conrads from "Classmates", who were VERY special guests at our wedding..for having this site and being the helping hand God used to bring us back together again. Thanks Randy and Sharon! Update: Since this was written, Bill and I sold our home and moved to Washington State to stay with my Mom, who later passed away from a fatal...Expand for more
stroke in September 2002. In March 2003, I was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer, stage IIIC (next to the worst there is), had a Radical Hysterectomy, went through Radiation and Chemo Therapy. I lost all my hair, and after my 4th and final treatment, ended up in the hospital with virtually no immune system. Thanks to 7 units of blood and 6 units of platelets via transfusions, I have recovered from that episode. My hair is now growing back in, actually curlier than before and my tests so far have come back negative for any signs of new cancers. Because of this past years events, I have a new appreciation for life and will NEVER take anything or anyone for granted again. Please keep Bill and I in your prayers. Bill is still looking for work in his field of computers, and we are slowly but surely trying to get back on our feet again...and I am hoping to never see any signs of cancers return! Update... Bill did eventually get back into his field of computers, has a great job now and we are living in Marysville, WA. Son...Paul is now 26 and doing well! So far so good on the health for me. No signs of recurrance and it will soon be the end of that hoped for "five year survival" period after being diagnosed with cancer. Thanks to all of you who knew our situation and kept us in your prayers!
