Cheryl's Story
Life
Enlisted in the Air Force right after high school and was stationed in California, Michigan, and Spain. I got out of the AF after 9 years (1986) while in Spain and decided to stay there. My partner and i had a small business and i also taught English as a second language (mostly to school children).
I left Spain in 1994, came back to York, PA and joined the Air National Guard part-time as a "weekend warrior". I originally joined as a Radio Operator and did that until November 2006 when i cross-trained into Accounting and Finance.
School
I really wanted to go to the 25th year reunion, but i was in Key West on my way to South America when everyone was partying at Valencia...oh well! Hopefully, I will make it to the 30th!
High School...well, some of you will probably remember me best from elementary school (McKinley) and JHS (7th grade at Hannah Penn). I had moved away in 8th grade, then came back to York in 10th grade. By that time i was pretty shy and didn't reconnect with everyone like i wish i would have. High school wasn't too bad, but i was glad to graduate and get on with life.
College
Attended Harrisburg Area Community College (AAs in Social Science and International Studies)and Millersville University (Bachelor's in History). Also have an AS from the Community College of the Air Force in Informationa Systems;will have another AS next year in Finance...Expand for more

Workplace
I worked at Dairy Queen while in high school, then joined the Air Force after high school (1977). I got out of the Air Force in 1986 in Spain and decided to stay there until 1994. While there, my partner and i owned a small business and i also taught English as a second language. After a while i decided to come back to the States and landed a job with Wampler Foods and held various positions there as an Interpretter/Translator (Spanish), lead, and shipping clerk. I left there in 1998 and started delivering pizza for Domino's. The tips were pretty good! Then i started "Guard bumming" in various federal and military positions. Hmmm...i guess it's time to get a State job.
Military
I went active duty after high school in 1977, and was stationed at March AFB, CA (1977-1980)...Wurtsmith AFB, MI(1980-1982)...and Torrejon AB, Spain (1982-1986). I got out in 1986 as a Staff Sergeant, a little fed up with active duty and remained in Spain as a civilian. When i returned to the United States in 1994, i decided to join the military again and so began my Air National Guard career with the 193rd Special Ops Wing in Harrisburg, PA. I joined as a radio operator and did that job until November 2006 (when it was no longer fun in the new Comm Squadron). I have 22+ years in and i plan to stay in for a while yet, especially since my new job in Acct and Finance is AWESOME!
