Cheryl's Story
Life
I have lived in Athens, Georgia since 1988. After graduating from UNC, I returned to Kannapolis for a few years to work in Industrial Relations at Cannon Mills. I married Chris Cornwell (UNC '81) in 1982 and moved to East Lansing, MI for him to complete graduate studies at MSU. I was employed by the Greater Lansing Urban League administering federal job training programs (JTPA.) After a few years, we moved to Morgantown, WV (WVU). I continued to work with JTPA programs and Caitlin (now 20)was born. Moved south in 1988 to Athens (UGA-Go Dawgs!) e old age of 41 (ugh!) I birthed Wild Sallie Jane (8)! It's been an interesting ride! Don't believe for a minute that having kids in your old age keeps you young! Most days I feel like I have one foot in the grave just trying to keep up a college student, a high school student and a very active and fiesty elementary school kid. But I wouldn't trade this way of doing it for anything!
I am the director of a mother's morning out program at Faith Presbyterian Church, serve with various volunteer organizations, watch high school baseball almost year-round (Sam places first base), do lots of laundry from the dorm, and try to keep up with Sallie and her dog, rabbit, fish and 3 crabs. Life is never dull!
