Cheryl's Story

Life Life has been quite exciting and exhausting! My husband, Clark, and I had boy/girl twins in 10/28/05. They are almost 15 months old now and are into absolutely everything! Keep us all on our toes. Our daugher is named Reagan Elise (we greatly admired Ronald Reagan, hence, her name) and our son is named Harrison Clark (a name that goes back many generations in my husband's family). They are adorable but I'm sure I'm slightly biased. Clark is VP of Operations for NC and SC for BellSouth Communications Systems (now AT&T). He travels quite a bit but enjoys his job (I'm sure he just enjoys getting a good night's sleep at a hotel!). I am still working at D.L. Davis & Co., Inc. I am #2 in rank in the employee benefits division (finally, after almost 14 years). We have a great team put together and are good at what we do for our clients if I say so myself. We bought a new home for my mother, Shirley, and my brother, Max R., here in Winston-Salem in March 2006. Yes, we moved them from Grundy to be closer (only 8 minutes from our house) to us and the twins. These are Shirley's only grandchildren and she actually watches them for us during the week. Hard to believe she can keep up with them at 79 years of age (she'll be 80 in October 2007). God has blessed her with good health and I pray that He continues to do so for everyone's sake. Life is certainly more complicated now but what would life be if everything was so easy that you didn't appreciate it. Update 5/30/08 - Things are going well for us all here in NC. ted to life in the "city" and states that she has no interest in moving back to Grundy. Her brother, Michael Trent, died several months ago which was very hard for her and her sisters. Uncle Mike was her last tie to Grundy so, now that he's gone, she feels that there is nothing for her there any longer. Of course, with our twins being 2 1/2 years old and into absolutely everything - she is very much needed here and that gives her a lot of purpose for an almost 81 year old lady. You would never believe she was 81. She gets in her car and drives all over Winston-Salem. She is an amazing lady! Max R., on the other hand, has had a harder time adjusting. He loved working at the Pizza Hut in Grundy and I'm sure that feeling like a "fixture" in a town was comforting. He didn't know a stranger there. There are many strangers here. I have been working with community based programs that offer vocational counselors to help him find a job or recreational activity that he will enjoy. But he loves the children and they love their "Uncle Bo". The children are thriving and growing so quickly. Reagan and Harrison are so close. We put them in their car seats and they reach for each other's hand. So we head down the road with the two of them holding hands. Too cute! Reagan is very talkative and loves to draw & color! Harrison is not as talkative (because his sister is talking all the time!) but is so energetic - he loves to sing, dance, play his little toy guitar, and smile so much! They are so amazing!! Clark and I are just so blessed!
