Cheryl's Story
Cheryl resides in Washington DC with husband Ron Slotkin. and labradoodle Honey. She has two grown children, both currently living in Connecticut: a daughter, 27 who is an MD and first year resident at Yale Hospital in New Haven, and a son, 24, who is a senior fuel cell power plant test engineer at Doosan Fuel Cells America. Recently retired from 43 years of federal service at the Environmental Protection Agency, Cheryl founded the Environmental Governance Institute International, EGII to carry on her work to develop and share lessons learned for more effective and efficient environmental governance. Both within the U.S. and internationally Cheryl has led and implemented innovations for environmental protection, including co-founding the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, INECE, with a Dutch colleague, developing consensus policies and principles and training for environmental impact assessment, environmental auditing, and environmental compliance and enforcement, defining state-federal oversight and implementation relationship, emissions offsets policies to enable new source growth in areas failing to attain standards and protect pristine areas, reform of permit programs for new construction to...Expand for more
eliminate unnecessary cost, delay and uncertainty and design of new systems internationally for implementing land use planning, permitting and enforcement in a more integrated manner. Over the course of 43 years at EPA Cheryl served in senior policy positions covering all media within the EPA Headquarters Policy Office, Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance and Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response with brief detail in EPA's Philadelphia Regional Office and work in the US Senate as a Brookings Legisfellow. Cheryl received the Agency's top awards, was nominated for and graduated from the Senior Executive Service candidate executive program. Her last position at EPA was Associate Director for Policy Analysis from which she managed international capacity and institution building programs in China, Indonesia and Central America.
Cheryl attended TV Summers Elementary School, Thompson Junior High, and Syosset High School. Following High School attended and graduated from Cornell University (BS with distinction in biometrics), University of Pennsylvania (MCP, Masters in City Planning), Stanford University School of Business (MA Management) and attended law school at George Washington University National Law Center.
